What Did Swara Bhaskar Say About The Jauhar Scene

Swara Bhaskar reportedly spoke about Padmavat’s Jauhar scene at the Woman Life Freedom talk in Delhi. She recalled watching it and saying that, God forbid, if she were a r*pe survivor, what was the film telling her? She stated that she would feel like a coward if she didn’t commit su*cide to save her honour. Swara asked if this was what they wanted to tell in a society like ours, where she feels like there is a r*pe epidemic. The actress further asked if they wanted to tell the survivors that they don’t deserve to live, that if they actually would have been an honourable and brave woman, they would have killed themselves. She questioned if we were saying that r*pe is the end of a woman’s life? The Veere Di Wedding star called the Jauhar scene “problematic.” The actress further recalled that there was one shot which made her so mad that she shouted “chii” loudly. Swara stated that there was a close-up of a pregnant woman’s belly performing Jauhar. She asked if they were telling her that the fetus, which might be a female, doesn’t deserve to be born because she might be r*ped by a Muslim ruler. She recalled waiting for five days to check if she still felt like that, and after five days she wrote a letter.
