‘The Male Feminist’ Episode 11: Divyanka Tripathi Shares How She Fought Unrealistic Beauty Standards With Self-Love!

Beauty is something which has a lot of importance and significance in our society. But unfortunately, the definition of beauty over the years has narrowed down to only a particular set of characteristics, body types and skin colours. Therefore, the beauty standards these days have become so idealistic that people get surgeries or get on different and harmful diets, etc., because of them. These beauty standards which have been set in our society are not natural, not common and it’s definitely not humanly possible for a person to uphold them without bending over backwards. Divyanka Tripathi discusses these beauty standards in the film industry in the latest episode of The Male Feminist.

In episode 11 of The Male Feminist, our favourite actress Divyanka Tripathi opens up about all things feminism in a conversation with Siddharth Aalambayan. While talking about personal issues, Divyanka talked about the unattainable beauty standards prevalent in the industry. She believes that there is a particular body type, i.e. the hourglass shape, that is not only demanded but also expected from every actress. According to me, this crazy need of society to push all women and especially actresses to have this hourglass body shape is very detrimental to the individualism of each woman, they are all being objectified to look the same. That’s awful, isn’t it?

The worst part is that if an actress isn’t of the said body shape then she receives a lot of backlash and criticism from the masses. Divyanka also experienced this because of her unique body type. She discussed how this can cause a lot of mental and emotional stress for a person. Divyanka went on to share how she had to convince not only others but also herself, that she is beautiful in her own way and that those beauty standards are not attainable or realistic. These standards need to be made obsolete.

This is a very important topic and people need to start accepting and appreciating different kinds of beauty we naturally are born with. As Divyanka said, it is very important for us to first convince ourselves that we are beautiful. It is important for every young girl out there to stop finding faults in her beauty and own it up. This was her key to a glorious victory against these toxic standards. But of course, at the same time, it is also important for society to accept diversity in beauty and let go of these toxic beauty standards because beauty resides in the eyes of the beholder.
