6 Female K-Pop Idols Who’re Breaking The Rigid Korean Beauty Norms. More Power To Them!

Women’s Day is just around the corner and the biggest challenge that we need to tackle is the rigid beauty norms created by society for us. Women are always expected to live up to unrealistic beauty standards and it makes every woman feel the need to look perfect and flawless all the time which is really difficult. Well, talking about beauty standards, we all know that the Korean entertainment industry has quite unachievable beauty norms for female K-pop idols. For example, every female K-pop idol should have a small face, big eyes, porcelain skin, a slim body and a youthful feminine look or else they have to face major criticism. However, many idols are breaking these norms unapologetically and creating their own standards and that is really empowering, to be honest! So, let’s take a look at some female K-pop idols breaking Korean beauty standards and making a huge impact in the Korean music industry with their talents.

Here Are 8 Female K-Pop Idols Who Love To Break The Strict Korean Beauty Norms With Style And We Heart It:

1. Hwasa From Mamamoo

Hwasa rightfully said, “ If I don’t fit into this generation’s beauty standards, then I will make my own standard.”

Hwasa is the youngest member of the famous K-pop girl group Mamamoo. From the beginning, she has faced criticism for not fitting in the mould of a so-called perfect female K-pop idol despite her exceptional singing and dancing skills. But she always believed in breaking the stereotypes and rocked her smooth tanned skin, curvaceous body and impressed us all with her iconic bold looks. She’s an icon!

2. Jeongyeon From TWICE

Due to health issues, Jeongyeon from TWICE had to take multiple breaks. She also gained a little weight which is a big NO for female K-pop idols in the industry. But instead of hiding herself from the media, she made a comeback and performed in their LA concert with confidence with other TWICE members. She’s so inspiring. Go, Queen!

3. Amber Liu From F(x)

OK, if anyone deserves an award for breaking beauty norms in the K-pop music industry, it’s Amber Liu from the girl group F(x). With her iconic tomboy and unfeminine look, she made a point that beauty is inclusive and should not be stereotyped. She also has been vocal about the strict Korean beauty norms and called out people who always try to degrade women for not being slim and flawless all the time (they are so lame, TBH).

4. Jessi

To say that Jessi is the most savage K-pop idol is to state the obvious. She’s a Korean-American rapper who always talks about not following the mainstream Korean beauty norms. Jessi openly discusses cosmetic surgeries. She’s the epitome of self-love!

Hyuna has always been the talk of the town because of her bold and sexy look which is not acceptable in the Korean music industry but Hyuna doesn’t care, okay! She shocked everyone including us when she took off her top and revealed her bra in the middle of the concert and we can’t stop cheering for her because that is quite bold.

The constant attention of the media and the audience tends to push high and barely achievable beauty standards on female K-pop idols. We love how these idols are normalising not following these standards and making their own standards that are inclusive in nature. More power to them!
