Gauahar Khan Slams Twitter User For Biased Opinion On UCC, Accuses Her Of “Inciting Hate”

Religious and communal conflicts have always been prevalent in our country. Many have lost their lives over these riots and still continue to do so as religious extremists believe that killing people is justified under the name of religion. I refuse to believe that any God wants this level of unrest and violence amongst their people. And yet, because of this, the conversation in India revolving around a Uniform Civil Code incites, even more, hate and conflict. Now, I am personally of the opinion that uniform laws will be helpful in preventing bias and victimisation of any particular community. But I’d respect an open debate on this because that’s a democracy. However, recently, actor Gauahar Khan slammed a Twitter user for holding a similar opinion. Although, in her defence, the user could have framed their opinion better instead of maligning a particular religion.

Gauahar Khan asked a Twitter user to “stop inciting hate” after the user tweeted saying that Muslims and Hindus in India are governed by different rights and laws, while advocating for a Uniform Civil Code or UCC. However, the way the user framed her point of view isn’t something that I agree with. The tweet seemed to be attacking the Muslim community without highlighting the flip side of the coin.

Gauahar slammed the Twitter user for “inciting hate” for suggesting a UCC. She moreover dubbed India as a secular nation with democracy and not a dictatorship.

I think it is pretty naive and ignorant of Gauahar Khan to equate having a Uniform Civil Code to something as severe as a dictatorship. Considering the stories we all have heard about North Korea, I believe she should know better than to say that. Moreover, while the way the opinion was framed was attacking one community, Gauahar Khan should have tried to explain her argument with factual points instead of completely slamming the user for presenting their opinion. These conflicts will not settle any time soon if people keep irrationally attacking each other rather than having an open, civil discussion.
