Richa Chaddha Apologises For “Galwan Says Hi” Tweet After Backlash. This Could’ve Been Avoided In The First Place!

Richa Chaddha took the internet by storm on Wednesday after she made a comment on India’s plan to take back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Referring to Galwan, the actress wrote, “Galwan says hi” while quoting a tweet from a user which quoted Northern Army Commander Lt General Upendra Dwivedi saying that the Indian Army is ready to take PoK back from Pakistan and they’re simply waiting for government orders while warning Pakistan of retaliation if they violate the ceasefire. This led to severe backlash from politicians as well as Twitter users for Richa Chaddha. Soon after, the actress took to Twitter to issue an apology for hurting the sentiments of the Indian Army personnel.

In an official apology, Richa Chaddha pointed out that even though, it wasn’t her intention to hurt or offend anyone, if her “3 words which are being dragged into a controversy” have hurt or offended people she apologises for it. She added that she would be upset if “even unintentionally” her words triggered her “brothers in the fauj”. The actress went on to clarify that her Nanaji (maternal grandfather) was a Lt Col in the Indian Army and also took a bullet in his leg during the Indo-China war in the 1960s and that her Mamaji (maternal uncle) was also a paratrooper and it’s in her blood. She also called it an “emotive issue” for her. Check out Richa Chaddha’s apology tweet.

FYI, a little before issuing the apology, the actress tweeted that she had muted replies and recieved a call so, she had no idea. While she hasn’t clarified what she’s referring to but it seems like the actress did not know about the storm her Galwan tweet stirred up.

Here’s a screenshot of Richa’s original tweet that led to the controversy.

TBH, this controversy could’ve been avoided altogether. There was no need to bring up Galwan and make an insensitive comment at a time like this. It’s not only hurtful but also disrespectful to use the sacrifice of the Indian Army officials to make a comment like this which was, just by the way, unnecessary and uncalled for.

More On Richa Chaddha’s Galwan Tweet Controversy

Soon after Richa Chaddha shared the now-deleted tweet making the Galwan reference, Twitter users called her out for “mocking” the Indian Army. Several politicians including BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Shiv Sena spokesperson Anand Dubey called her out. Sirsa called it a “cheap publicity stunt” and urged Mumbai police to take an action against the actress. Anand Dubey also demanded for strict action to be taken against Richa for her “anti-national tweet”.

Earlier on Thursday, Supreme Court advocate Vineet Jinal also wrote a letter to the Delhi Police and demanded a complaint be filed and the actress be arrested for her remarks.

Well, even though we’re not very convinced by Richa Chaddha’s apology, we’ll take it. That apology sounds more like a justification and less like an apology. In all honesty, the tweet was not only insensitive but also unnecessary.
