You Can Now Have A Lockdown Wedding With The Statue Of Unity As A Backdrop. Brides-To-Be, You Might Want To Consider This
This is probably the first time in decades that the wedding business had seen such a dramatic drop. I could be wrong but I believe there there is phrase that goes ‘time, tide and weddings wait for no one’, in India. That being said, I did feel bad for the brides- and grooms-to-be who had to shelve their wedding plans. Also, I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss going to the big fat Indian weddings all dressed up, dancing and hogging on the delicious food.
But with the lockdown slowly lifting, regardless of the increasing cases, and wedding ceremonies finally getting a green signal from the government with a gathering of only 50 people, of course, couples can now go on with their small ‘big day’.
Plus, if you had a destination wedding on the cards, there’s good news. The Gujarat Government has opened the Tent City at the Statue of Unity for lockdown weddings. Yes, the same 3000 crore statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel which stands at 182 meters that is also the world’s tallest statue is now available as a backdrop. You could have a destination wedding with the monumental statue and Narmada river as your backdrop, which is actually pretty great since it makes your small lockdown wedding really epic.

The wedding package for 50 people for one night is Rs2.25 lakh which includes three meals and starters and mocktails at the wedding ceremony, a royal cottage for the newlyweds and 17 triple-occupancy rooms for the guests. Plus, jaimala, wedding cake, the chori for the marriage ceremony with a seating arrangement for 50 people are also included in the package. The e-invites, a henna artist and music for the wedding day are also on the house.
Chetan Verma, the operations manager at the Tent City 1 of Statue of Unity, said, “We have drawn up packages for 50 persons as per the state government’s Covid guidelines. The cost per package is about Rs 2.5 lakh, which is extremely affordable as our cottages cost about Rs 12,000 each per night at the regular price (before the lockdown).” I think it’s a pretty good deal.

Before you wonder about the safety and precautionary measures, because that’s what I also did obviously, Krinal Raval, assistant manager, marketing and sales at Tent City-1 has assured that it is taken care of. The check-in will be contactless, masks and sanitizers will be provided to everyone and a thermal scanning will be done for everyone at the venue. Needless to say, social distancing will be maintained. Also, instead of buffet, a la cart menu with a QR code will be available for the guests to place orders from. The wedding will take place indoors in a 4,000 sq. ft banquet hall to ensure safety.
I don’t know about you but if I was getting married in the lockdown, I would want to make my small lockdown wedding with just 50 people around (and a mask on your face) as picturesque and gorgeous as possible. And, getting married at the banks of Narmada river in a secluded place with beautiful cottages and world’s tallest statue as the backdrop, it would truly be so special. Your thoughts?
