Babushka Battalion, Group Of Older Ukrainian Women, Are All Set To Fight Off Russian Troops Invading Ukraine

Until and unless you’re living under a rock, you’d be aware of the growing tension between Russia and Ukraine. The tension between the two has gotten to a point where the possibility of World War III doesn’t seem so far-fetched. And when worse comes to worst, the people of the country have to stand up for themselves and take weapons into their own hands to protect their homeland. At least, that’s what the ‘Babushka battalion’ believes. Who are they? Well, they are a group of older Ukrainian women who are not afraid to pick up the armory to protect Ukraine.

Babushka battalion is a group of older Ukrainian women who have dug trenches, provided medical care, made nets, offered supplies, and have even built a lookout tower. They are ready to take up arms if and when President Vladimir Putin orders his Russian troops to invade Ukraine.

One of the members of the Babushka battalion is Valentyna Konstantinovska. She is a 79-year-old woman who had volunteered to protect Ukraine ever since the conflict broke out in 2014.

Valentyna Konstantinovska, who is a member of the Babushka battalion, is ready to do whatever it takes to help win the war. In an event where they taught citizens how to prepare and defend themselves, she said, “I love my city, I am not leaving. Putin can’t scare us off. Yes, it’s terrifying, but we will still stand for our Ukraine until the very end.”

The event that was organised by the far-right movement Azov, taught people basic lessons on first-response medical care, survival, evacuation, weapons safety, and how to use a weapon. As per the reports, this is the first time in 8 years of conflict have the citizens received such training.

The Babushka battalion member who also got trained by the Azov said, “I’ve been dreaming since 2014 to learn to use a gun but was told ‘babushka, you are too old for that. You will be knocked off your feet with the recoil’.”

She said that for the Babushka battalion it is all about saving and protecting their motherland, Ukraine from Russia and nothing more. Konstantinovska added, “I am ready to fight if Russia does invade, even if I have to get into a fistfight with them. They are not our brothers.’

From the building tension between Russia and Ukraine, one thing is clear that this is not the kind of war that will end with a few casualties. Needless to say, if something is not done soon, we might just witness World War III.
