Two Women Have Set Out On A 5,000 Km Cycling Expedition With An Aim To Spread Awareness About Women Empowerment

Here at Hauterfly, our goal is to spread as much awareness as we can about women’s rights and empowerment. We ensure to cover women-oriented stories, the good, the bad and the ugly. Which means that sometimes we come across incidents of brutal rape or even murder. However, this story is about inspiration and encouragement. You see, in an attempt to spread the message of women empowerment and a pollution-free environment, two women took up a cycling expedition from the Wagah border to Arunachal Pradesh. We love this!

Suruti Rawat and from Uttrakhand and Sawita Mahtav from Bihar took up a cycling expedition to raise awareness about climate change and women empowerment. Their journey starts at the Wagah Border and will end in Arunachal Pradesh, covering nearly 5,000 kilometres. According to reports, they will pass through eight states on their way. Their initiative to actively spread awareness about two noble causes is extremely motivating.

One of the two women, Suruti, said that their motive is to spread awareness about women empowerment and a pollution-free environment. They are starting a trans-Himalayan cycling expedition to spread their message. She said, “I am from Uttarkashi district. We are starting a trans-Himalaya cycling expedition with an aim of spreading awareness regarding women empowerment and clean Himalaya. This expedition will commence in Arunachal Pradesh. We will communicate with different people during our journey.” Further adding, “Our motive is to spread the message of women empowerment. We will go till Arunachal. The Uttarakhand government is supporting us.”

Is it only me or does their expedition sound extremely exciting? If I were even a tad more outdoorsy, I would try something similar given how much I believe in both their causes. But alas, I can barely get myself to go for a walk each morning. Nevertheless, I absolutely love the initiative.

Sawita Mahtav, the second woman on the expedition said that on their journey, they will also stop at various schools and colleges to promote women empowerment. She said, “I am from Bihar and our main motive is to keep mother earth clean and pollution-free. Another prime motto is to promote women empowerment, we will visit schools and colleges to inform women and girls about their rights. Our focus is to empower the young generation.”

Director General (DIG), BSF, Bhupinder Singh flagged off their cycling expedition from the Attari-Wagah border yesterday. This initiative is inspiring and motivating. It will show the girls of a younger generation that despite patriarchal norms, women can do anything they set their minds to.

More power to Suruti and Sawita!
