Two Pakistani Women Crossed The Wagah Border And Were Reunited With Their Husbands After Being Separated For Nearly Two Years

Let’s start with a small history lesson, shall we? In 1947, when India and Pakistan were partitioned, it incited some of the most violent riots the two countries had ever seen. Everyone knows that, right? We’ve all studied this in school and watched Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Amid all that chaos, hundreds of families were separated by the border that went up. Even now, 74 years later, every and then we hear of the most heartwarming reunion stories. The one we are talking about today though is about two couples who were reunited after being separated by the Indo-Pak border for nearly two years. It’s a story that tugs on all the right heart-strings.

You see, on 8th March, International women’s day, two couples living on two sides of the border were finally reunited after being separated for nearly two years. The two Pakistani brides were granted permission to enter our country and live with their husbands. Chagan Kanwar, wife of Mahendra Singh and Kailash Bai, wife of Nepal Singh crossed the border via the Wagah-Attari border along with some family members. After being separated for so long, they were helped by Union Minister Kailash Choudhary who interviewed on their behalf. The two women were welcomed into the country by their husbands who were waiting at the border for them.

After crossing the border, Chagan Kanwar and Kailash Bai went through a security check and a COVID 19 test. While Chagan arrived with her father, Kailash Bai arrived with her mother and brother. Nepal Singh, Kailash Bai’s husband, told HT that while he was very grateful to Union minister Kailash Choudhary for arranging this and making it possible for him to be reunited with his wife, he is sad that is younger brother’s wife couldn’t get a visa. He further said that earlier, his wife was only allowed to enter India via flight but since they couldn’t afford that, Union Minister Kailash Choudhary arranged for them to use the Wagha-Attari road route.

27-year-old Nepal Singh is a resident of Baiyaa in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. In January last year, he got married to Kailash Bai, a Hindu woman living in Pakistan. After the wedding, he returned to India without his bride since back then, she wasn’t granted a visa on technical grounds. His younger brother’s wife is still not allowed in the country since her passport has been blacklisted.

On the other hand, Mahendra Singh, a resident of Khejad Ka Paar in Barmer got married to Chagan Kanwar, a Pakistani in 2017. Ever since then, he has been running from pillar to post so his wife gets an Indian visa but was being denied by the Indian Consulate. After nearly three years, Union Minister Kailash Choudhary helped the couple out.

Now, these are the kind of love stories they should be making movies about. After being separated by the Indo-Pak border for two years, these two couples will finally be able to be together. It’s heartwarming and absolutely touching!
