#Trending: Star Japanese Tennis Player Naomi Osaka Gets Trolled For Posting A Picture Wearing A Bikini. Apparently, She Should Maintain Her Innocence

Why is that people think they can comment and judge every single aspect of a celebrities life, especially their clothing? Yes, they live their life in the public eye but it’s still their life and their decisions. Every now and again, we come across incidents where people judging a woman celebrity for what she wore. Shaming her for wearing a bikini or something too revealing. It’s sick.  Just think about it, how would you like it if a seemingly normal photo of you wearing a bikini went viral and people turned it into a public spectacle calling you names and trying to determine whether what you’re doing is right or wrong? It’s none of their business, right? So, why doesn’t the same logic and respect apply to celebrities? They should be able to wear whatever they want without having to deal with copious amounts of hate, condescending comments and judgement. 

If you thought, this only happens with celebrities in India, think again. Just a few days ago, star Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka was targetted by these “social media police” after she posted a photo of herself posing in a bikini. Although the picture was quite tasteful, netizens thought the 22-year-old two-time Grand Slam champion should maintain an “innocent image” and not try and be someone she is not.

Of course, Naomi hit back at these critics with a rather strong-worded message that put them in their place. However, I don’t understand how people think it’s okay to comment stuff like that? It’s wrong on so many levels. If she wants to wear a swimsuit and do a photoshoot, she doesn’t need anyone’s permission any more than she needs undue criticism. 

I just wanna say it’s creeping me out how many people are commenting @ me to maintain my “innocent image” and “don’t try to be someone your not”. You don’t know me, I’m 22, I wear swimsuits to the pool. Why do you feel like you can comment on what I can wear?

After she was slammed and shamed for the bikini-clad picture, Naomi took to Twitter to post, “I just wanna say it’s creeping me out how many people are commenting @ me to maintain my “innocent image” and “don’t try to be someone your not”. You don’t know me, I’m 22, I wear swimsuits to the pool. Why do you feel like you can comment on what I can wear?” 

Naomi is the former number-one tennis player in the world. Not to mention is the world’s highest-paid woman athlete and ranks at number 29 on the 2020 Forbes list of the world’s 100 top-paid athletes. I think she can wear a bikini without worrying about up-to-no-good people with access to social media.

Also, why on earth would she have to preserve her innocence for anyone? Just because she is a 22-year-old woman in the public eye, she owes you an image you are comfortable with? Is that it? It’s really shameful that people feel like they can go around telling women what kind of image they should have. 

A woman posing for a photo in a bikini is not the problem. The actual problem is the narrow-mindedness of people. Let’s try broadening our perspectives. It’s not that difficult.
