#Trending: Ayesha Jhulka Talks About Being Replaced In A Movie Without Being Given A Reason. Bollywood’s Skeletons Are Tumbling Out

If these last few months have taught us anything, it’s that Bollywood has facades. The tragic demise of young and talented Sushant Singh Rajput has proven that behind the curtain, our entertainment industry is not all made of rainbows and sparkly unicorns. The thing to remember though is that, even though all the actors are only being compelled to talk about their run in’s with nepotism now, it started long before Kangana Ranaut and Karan Johar butted heads over coffee.

In fact, it’s common knowledge that because Bollywood was ruled primarily by men in the 80s and 90s, nepotism and all sorts of misbehaviour was rampant back then. Just take a look at the #MeToo movement’s rap sheet. What the hero wanted, he got no questions asked. Which meant that a lot of actresses faced a lot of unpleasant circumstances. 

One such actress who, despite having multiple blockbuster movies under her belt, had to deal with a lot of unpleasantness is Ayesha Jhulka. I am sure you know her from classic movies like Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Khiladi and Himmatwala among others.

Speaking to Pinkvilla in a recent interview, Ayesha spoke about being replaced in a movie without being given any reason. She said, “Hota hai. For example, I had signed a film called Narsimha with N Chandra and I had done the muharat too. That was my initial stage before Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. Suddenly, I got a call from the production saying that I am no longer part of the film as I was replaced with no reason given whatsoever. Of course, it hurt me then because I had not even started but immediately by god’s grace within 3 months, I signed Jo Jeeta, so it covered up everything. My family has been my strength always so they just pulled me through. At that age, in fact, you don’t have that kind of mindset. People today at a very early age are overambitious. In our times, I was never was over-ambitious, I would just take everything in my stride and do my best.” 

You see, Bollywood has many different faces that we don’t get to see. Although talking about Narsimha, we have a few speculations. You might remember that the Ayesha was eventually replaced by the gorgeous Dimple Kapadia. That might seem normal, right? It’s like Ayesha said, “hota hai”. But when you add in the fact that the hero of the movie was Sunny Deol, Dimple Kapadia’s then boyfriend, it seems a bit fishy. If I didn’t know any better, I would call it a case of nepotism. But, hey these are all just very interesting speculations.

Even though Ayesha took a step back from acting a few years ago, she has starred in some very interesting movies. 

In the same interview, she went on to say, “Narsimha stayed with me because that was when I had just begun and I did not know why I was replaced. There have been times when I had heard the script and things were finalised but then something would happen and I was replaced but to be very honest, I was younger, I did not think so much. I had great support from my parents as well. This is the difference today, in those times, 1 out of 10 people would be without their family and do everything on their own and now out of 10, 9 do this where you don’t have any backing, everybody is struggling on their own. So, I think you need great emotional support to have your back for any profession, forget just this. There will be ups and downs in every profession, there is so much of politics in the corporate world, what do you do about that?” 

To most people, Bollywood seems like an industry that has it all- money, fame and dreams coming true. But the truth is, behind all the glitz and the glamour there is an ugly side as well and the mask is only now coming off.
