#SpreadPositivity: This Dance-off Video Of A Grandpa And Granddaughter Duo Amidst Social Distancing Times Is Bringing Us Cheer

Humans are social animals, no matter how many posts you share on Instagram implying that you hate people. We used to cancel plans to stay home on a Friday night; we’ve fallen out of touch from one too many friends and we’ve even preferred Netflix over actually talking to someone. But if you think about it, all of this is because of lack of energy and not because we don’t like being social. When we say no plans, it’s because we’re tired and we want to recharge.

And now that we have time, energy and mental bandwidth to connect with people, the universe is kinda against it. Since we are forced to practise social distancing due to the new coronavirus and really, there’s no other way out – it’s making all of us value our social interactions a lot more. While several people used to be on their phones even when in company, now they craving real face-to-face social connection.

However, I think it’s safe to say that some of us are creative enough to find ways to have fun without being physically close. In a video, this grandpa and grand-daughter duo are seen shaking a leg in a dance-off and it’s really the cutest thing you will see today.

Sherrie Neely from Nashville, Tennessee shared a video of her 6-year-old daughter Kira and 80-year-old father Marvin Neely indulging in a dance-off standing across the street. Kira has been very close to her grandparents as they live just across the street and they used to be hanging out all day, until the pandemic happened.

She shared the video on Facebook and wrote: “I haven’t posted on FB in forever…but I love this video so much! This is the street that separates my house from my parent’s house and is typically crossed multiple times throughout the day. Kira loves her “Papa” so much and they’ve now started daily “dance-offs” since the virus is keeping them separated. My Dad is turning 81 years old next month and I’ve never seen him dance, but he’s really putting forth great effort and has some special moves!!!!  I’m sure the workers think we’re crazy!!!” The duo seems to be really happy dancing on Jackson 5’s ABC.

Sherrie said that this phase of social distancing has really made her appreciate her parents even more. “All the changes with the virus and social distancing have just made me even more thankful and grateful to have them near,” said Sherrie. She further added, “The fact that we can still get outside and have fun from a distance means everything to us, and helps to give us a sense of normalcy in such a crazy time. I’m so thankful Kira will always have these memories of her time with her Papa.”

They are really lucky to be so close to each other. And yes, spending time with your loved ones in stressful times makes it easier. But for those who aren’t in the vicinity of their folks, I hope you find ways to stay connected and happy.
