Union Budget 2022: President Ram Nath Kovind Talks About Reforms For Women, Female Cadets, And Triple Talaq Ban

While we as a country have a lot to do in terms of working out the issues of gender equality, we are very slowly trying to achieve that. We have a lot of work to do, however, there are reforms being made to try to eradicate social evils against women and create a more safe and progressive environment for them. President of India Ram Nath Kovind addressed Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in the parliament for the budget session for the financial year. President Kovind discussed the numerous enterprises taken by the government for the betterment of females in India.

Ram Nath Kovind addressed the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and said that women empowerment is the main priority for the government. Female entrepreneurship and skills have gotten a boost through Mudra Yojana. ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ has brought forth a lot of positive results too. Ram Nath Kovind also addressed the equality between sons and daughters using the marriage bill and addressed the bill that has petitioned to increase the marriage age for women to be raised to 21 from 18. However, the bill has been under inspection and the parliamentary standing committee is currently discussing it, which has only one woman in the panel of reviewers.

The inclusion of women cadets to the National Defence Academy (NDA) by Kovind. He said, “It is a matter of joy that all 33 Sainik schools have now started giving admission to girls too. The government has also approved the entry of women cadets at the National Defence Academy. The first batch of women cadets will come to NDA in June 2022.”

Kovind talked about the criminalisation of Triple Talaq saying that the government is moving towards getting rid of a lot of the ill-practices. The government has also lifted the ban on women going to Haj with Mehram (a male guardian), according to reports

While we still have a lot to achieve, it is refreshing to see that the government is taking steps towards making our country a better place for women. Ram Nath Kovind’s words have made me look forward to what more reforms will be taken in India.
