On Thursday, the ruling party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) appointed the 28-year-old as mayor and she became the youngest and first-ever Dalit woman mayor of Chennai. FYI, the Greater Chennai Corporation was established in the year 1688, so the appointment of a Dalit woman mayor happened after 334 years. After this, she’s the third woman to become the mayor of the state. Before her, Tara Cherian and Kamakshi Jayaraman were also appointed as the mayor of Chennai. Recently, R Priya took the oath and finally took the charge, more power to her!
