P V Sindhu Brings Home Gold, Breaks Records While Doing It. You Go Girl!

As a writer, I find myself talking and writing about a number of things and numerous people on the daily. Not everyone I like or I am inspired by, but things we must talk about. But if I have to cast my vote on some of my personal favourites, it has to start with the badminton prodigy P V Sindhu who has yet again given the nation a reason to celebrate.

Earning herself her very first gold in the World Championships, the ace badminton player won the women’s single in Basel yesterday and finally got her hand on a gold after securing a silver last year. The champion admitted after her glorious victory that she was indeed expecting a tough battle, ‘given Okhura’s reputation’, but was relieved to have maintained her score and lead with a safe 21-7 margin. She said, “Well, I didn’t expect it to be such a one-sided final but I must say I played as well I could in the most important match of the championship.” And we couldn’t agree more. Leading from the start till the very end, Sindhu pocketed this win with grace and precision.

She said, “I never felt any pressure before entering what was my third final. I just wanted to give my best shot and didn’t bother whether I would win or not when the final started. The best part is there were very few unforced errors and it was a near-perfect game.” Having been trained under the mettle of  new coach Kim Ji Hyun of South Korea,  she said, “Definitely, the Korean coach Kim Ji Jyun’s inputs and Gopi sir’s guidance were major plus points in my campaign. I must say Kim has her own effective style of getting the best out of me,”

P V Sindhu, who had recently also made it to the Forbes list of highest paid athletes as the only Indian female to feature in it, has again won a World Champion singles title in badminton and is the only Indian female to have ever done it. Dedicating the win to her mother, for it came to her on the birthday of her mother, P V Sindhu shared how her biggest achievement couldn’t have come on a better day for her!

Safe to say, with Sindhu at the forefront, we shall always have enough reason to champion and celebrate her and India’s name with pride. Way to go P V Sindhu. You’ve done us proud, girl!
