In recent events, Bollywood actor Dia Mirza’s now-viral eco-friendly Diwali video for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) sparked a political row. About Dia Mirza Diwali Video Row

The controversy rose after Dia Mirza urged people to go for an eco-friendly Diwali celebration by asking them to avoid air and noise pollution in a video shared by the BMC’s social media handles. This was a part of an awareness campaign. After the controversy, her clip was removed on Sunday, while videos of actors Madhuri Dixit, well-known cricketer Ajinkya Rahane, and Nisigandha Wad have been retained on the BMC’s X (Previously Twitter) and Instagram pages. This row erupted even more after BJP leader Ameet Satam shared a post on X about the same and said that they don’t need “lessons” on how to celebrate Diwali.

Just hours after Satam’s post, the civic body led by the VMC removed Mirza’s video from all the social media pages. For the unversed, the BMC has been running an awareness campaign to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali amid the Bombay High Court’s directive. This is the first time the civic body has included celebrities to help promote an awareness campaign. Amid the rising air pollution in Mumbai, the Bombay High Court directed a prohibition on bursting firecrackers on public roads and footpaths.
