Imran Khan Apologises Over Mumbai SIR Protest, Says He Will Not Join Future Demonstrations

In recent events, actor Imran Khan submitted an unconditional apology before the Bombay High Court for participating in the Mumbai SIR protests on October 10. In the apology, he stated that he would not be participating in any protests in the future. His lawyer, Venkatesh Dhond, filed an undertaking after the court nudged him at a hearing on his plea against a FRRO Leave India Notice, just after his detention near August Krant Maidan.

About Imran Khan

According to reports, the Bombay High Court has kept the ‘leave India’ notice in suspension until December 7. Imran is expected to stay in the country as a “law-abiding person” who will not associate with any protest or rights which are available to the citizens of India under the Constitution. During his plea hearing, a bench of Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait M Sethna noted that he was not affected by the Special Intensive Revision as an OCI cardholder and that he had no “right” to participate in such activities as he does not have equal rights as a citizen of the country.

In his undertaking, Imran said that he only visited the protest site to witness the restrictions on movement and the suppression of voices of the citizens. He further clarified that he did not intend to make demands or participate either. He then voluntarily agreed not to engage in or encourage any protests in India in the future. Khan also said that he had no criminal record, has followed the laws throughout his 42 years in the country along with contributing through taxes and job creation. He further cited his personal and professional ties to India, which include his marriage, daughter, and family’s connections to the Indian film industry.
