India Along With The UNSC Calls For A Reversal Of Taliban’s Face-Cover Order For All Afghan Women

Last year in August, the Taliban took over Afghanistan and ever since then the condition of the people living there is worsening. And this is especially true for Afghan women whose human rights are time and again being violated constantly. Just recently they passed an order that all the female TV presenters and women on the screen will have to cover their faces while being on air. And this order came right after the Taliban ordered all Afghan women to cover up. Following this, India called for the reversal of the decree that stated that all women – including TV presenters and on-screen women – should cover their faces.

TS Tirumurti, India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, took to Twitter to express concern about the violation and “ erosion” of the rights of women in Afghanistan by the Taliban. In his tweet, he called for the reversal of such policies and expressed concern regarding the volatile security situation and terrorism that is happening in Afghanistan.

In his tweet, TS Tirumurti wrote, “Security Council expressed concern about erosion of rights of women in Afghanistan. Deep concern on Taliban announcement that women should cover faces in public. Call for reversal of such policies. Deep concern on volatile security situation and Terrorism”

As per reports, the UN Security Council (UNSC) said that these restrictions put in place by the Taliban contradict the expectations of the international community and the commitments that were made by them. They also expressed concern about the Taliban’s decision to dissolve some key national institutions.
