In US, A Woman Was Raped In A Moving Train While Other Passengers Filmed With Their Phones.

A United Nations statistical report shows that over 250,000 cases of rape or attempted rape are recorded by the police annually. The data for the report was collected from 65 countries across the globe. And that basically indicates that no matter where in the world a woman lives, the chances of her being raped are always there. Now, this is something that all women are aware of, but what they wouldn’t have fathomed is that no one would help save them when they are getting molested, groped, or raped. Yes, I’m talking about the Philadelphia train case where a woman was harassed, groped, and eventually raped in a train while the other riders held up their phones. Makes me wonder where humanity is?

According to the authorities a man named Fiston Ngoy was charged with harassing, groping, and raping a woman on the commuter train for 40 minutes, and all the while the other riders pulled up their phones to record the assault but none of them intervened to stop the man. The incident took place just outside of Philadelphia.

On a news conference on Monday, Thomas J. Nestel III, the police chief for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority spoke about the case and revealed that more than two dozen train stops passed by as the man started harassing the woman, groping her, and eventually raping her. And the police believe that none of the witnesses even bothered dialing 911 when the incident was taking place. In fact, the police are still investigating if any of the bystanders might have filmed the sexual assault.

The reports suggest that Fiston and the woman got on the train at the same stop in North Philadelphia on Wednesday night. And the 35-year-old man was pulled off of the woman after 40 minutes, on the last stop by officers after they received a 911 call from a transportation authority employee.

In his news conference, Thomas J. Nestel III said, “What we want is everyone to be angry and disgusted and to be resolute about making the system safer… I can tell you that people were holding their phone up in the direction of this woman being attacked.” Even though he did not give an approximate number of how many witnesses were there, he did say that none of them did anything to stop the man nor did they call the police.

As per the reports, the investigators in the affidavit against Ngoy wrote that the video they got showed the woman trying to push him off of her multiple times until he rips her pants down. It was then that an employee who was in the vicinity as the train passed by called 911 reporting that “something wasn’t right” with a woman on the train. The police rushed to the next stop, rescued the woman, and arrested Fiston Ngoy. The woman was then taken to the hospital immediately.

It is downright disgusting and disturbing to know that there were so many people on the train and they could have stopped the man or at least called the police, but instead chose to record the sexual assault on the woman. I mean, that woman was getting harassed and raped in front of people for over 40 minutes and no one did anything nor did they utter a single word to stop the man. How inhumane, cold, and insensitive do people have to be to not report or stop something like this? Where is humanity?
