Chitra Ramkrishna’s Advisor ‘Himalayan Yogi’ Turns Out To Be Ex-NSE Officer Anand Subramanian, Arrested: Report

Imagine you take over the position of your boss after she or he retires and then you take advice from them for your work but give them a mysterious name and identity? Well, this is exactly what happened in the case of the ‘Himalayan Yogi’ who allegedly influence the decisions of Chitra Ramkrishna, former National Stock Exchange (NSE) head. It turns out that the ‘Himalayan Yogi’ is Anand Subramanian, an ex-NSE officer who was earlier arrested in a case of stock market manipulation. Subramanian is the former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the NSE. He has been arrested by the CBI from Chennai for the NSE scam.

According to a report by NDTV, the former NSE had been communicating with Chitra Ramkrishna via email as per CBI sources. Chitra Ramakrishna had shared confidential information about NSE from her email id to another email id from 2013 to 2016 as per the report. Several of these emails were also sent to another email id belonging to Anand Subramanian and the screenshots of the same have been recovered by the investigating authority. Following his arrest, the ex-NSE officer was questioned by the CBI. A source told NDTV that Subramanian refused to cooperate during questioning and gave ‘evasive’ answers.

Chitra Ramkrishna was being investigated for allegedly sharing confidential information with the ‘Himalayan Yogi’ who happens to be her aide and ex-NSE officer, Anand Subramanian. During the investigation, evidence seized from Anand Subramanian’s house suggested that he may have impersonated the ‘Himalayan Yogi’ and influenced the NSE chief. Anand Subramanian was appointed by the NSE chief as the Chief Strategic Adviser in 2013. He was later promoted to Group Operating Officer in 2015 without any performance evaluation. Due to this Chitra Ramkrishna along with others were charged with alleged governance lapses by SEBI. Subramanian had left NSE in 2016 following allegations of irregularities.

During the SEBI investigation, Chitra Ramakrishna had claimed that the email correspondence she had with a ‘Himalayan Yogi’ who resided in the Himalayan ranges. She also told them that she met him several times in holy places. She also called him a ‘spiritual force’.
