Who Is Dr Pallavi Patel? The Candidate That Won Against BJP In UP Elections
While there are a lot of places in India where women do not have a lot of opportunities and representation, I believe that law enforcement and politics has a major issue in that regard. However, slowly there are reforms coming up in this regard as more women are getting the opportunity to excel in these fields. After Jeevan Jyot Kaur, another woman who has done well this election is Dr Pallavi Patel from the Samajwadi Party who is the victor of the Uttar Pradesh 2022 Assembly Polls.
Dr Pallavi Patel emerged as the winner of the Uttar Pradesh elections of 2022. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya from BJP lost Sirathu in the district of Kaushambi to Dr Patel by a margin of 7,337 votes.

But, Who Is Dr Pallavi Patel?
Pallavi Patel is Anupriya Patel’s elder sister whose Apna Dal (Sonelal) are allied with the BJP. Pallavi and her mother whose name is Krushna Patel, represent a different faction of the Apna Dal also known as Apna Dal (Kameravadi). This time the party is siding with the Samajwadi Party. Dr Patel has been sent out on a Samajwadi party ticket against UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya from the Sirathu assembly seat.
According to reports from News 18, Dr Patel is 41 years old. She has declared total assets of rupees 3.4 crores along with total liabilities worth rupees 8.9 lacs.
Dr Patel has studied for a doctorate after graduating in biotechnology and is currently a doctor. She initially entered politics and helped her father, Sonelal Patel who was the founder of the Apna Dal. After his death, Krushna Patel became the President of the party while Anupriya is the general secretary.

Dr Patel was made the Vice President of the Party by her mother, in 2014. The appointment was opposed by Anupriya as she claimed that in the Party’s constitution there is no post of Vice President and said that this makes Pallavi’s appointment unconstitutional. This conflict between Anupriya and Krushna Patel escalated to an extent that it had reached the election commission and in 2016, the party split into two branches.
The faction that supports Anupriya Patel and her husband Ashish Patel is known as Apna Dal (sonelal). And the one supporting Krushna and Pallavi Patel is Apna Dal (communist). Anupriya’s party allied with BJP during this election while Krushna’s Party supported the Samajwadi Party, according to Jagran.
