CWG 2022: Indian Female Athletes Pave Way For Glory As Harjinder Kaur Bags Bronze Medal In 71 Kgs Weightlifting Category!

The Commonwealth Games 2022 are on in Birmingham and the Indian contingent is doing great at the sporting event. The female athletes from India are bagging medals in various sports, making us feel very proud of them. It was the fourth day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Monday and India has bagged yet another medal, bringing us glory yet again! This time India’s Harjinder Kaur won the bronze medal in the weightlifting category.

India Bags Medal In Weightlifting At CWG

Harjinder Kaur competed in the 71 kg weight category. As per reports, she lifted a total of 212 kg. She lifted 93 kg in the snatch motion and 119 kgs in the clean and jerk motion. Kaur could not lift the 90 kg snatch the first time but she easily managed to achieve the feat in her second attempt which also made it her personal best!

Harjinder Kaur began the clean jerk round by picking up 113 kg the first time, 116 kg the second time and 119 kg the third time. She won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games last year. Sarah Davies from England won the gold medal by lifting 229 kgs and Alexis Ashworth from Canada took home the silver medal by lifting 214 kgs. Sarah also broke the Commonwealth Games record this time.

Mirabai Chanu, too, made us proud by clinching the gold medal in the 49 kgs weightlifting category. In other sports, Sushila Devi Likmabam bagged the silver medal in the women’s judo 49 kgs event. Also, the Indian Four Lawns Bowls women did great at the Commonwealth Games 2022 as they scored the first ever medal i.e. a silver for the country.
