#HauteReads: The 10 Best Books To Read This Summer

By  |

With summer still going strong, most of us are way too lazy to move out of our chairs/beds over the weekend. All we want to do is laze around with the air conditioner on full blast, scrolling through our social media feeds or vegetate in front of the telly. Well, we don’t blame you. However, we’d like to propose an alternative.

Don’t let the sweltering heat drain you of your spunk and energy. Why waste precious time in bed doing nothing, when you can curl up with a nice book instead? And if you’re stuck at home because it’s too hot to even think about stepping outside, pick up a chic read and escape into another world for the next few hours.

Being a voracious reader myself, I know just the kind of books you’ll love reading this summer — something light, something that puts a smile on your face, and something that helps you pass the time. So I’ve made a helpful list of the 10 best books that make for some fun reading this season.

Piece Of Cake_Hauterfly

1. Piece Of Cake by Swati Kaushal

This book revolves around the story of a smart young woman who works in the Big Bad World Of Advertising. The storyline is simple, yet grasping. It will have you flipping pages non-stop. What’s more, it’s also the perfect combination of a good summer read — good-looking men, witty comebacks, and lots of cake!

2. The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella

From the author who gave you The Confessions Of A Shopaholic comes ‘The Undomestic Goddess — a laugh riot of a book that’s bound to keep you hooked. It is the perfect book to carry with you on holiday. The protagonist, Samantha Sweeting, is extremely loveable. I bet a lot of you will be able to relate to her lifestyle. If you have nothing much planned for this weekend, check out this book!

3. Life, Death and Vanilla Slices by Jenny Eclair

Don’t let the title mislead you. This book is a real treat and there’s nothing remotely dark or morbid about it. It explores the special bond between a mother and daughter and is all about forgiving and forgetting. The fact that the cover of the book sports a cute little illustration of a plate of vanilla slices doesn’t hurt either.

4. The Key Trilogy by Nora Roberts

Nora Roberts has a real way with words. If you’re looking for an element of the mystical or if you’re someone who believes in pixie dust and fairies, this book is made for you. The trilogy comprises of Key of LightKey of Knowledge and Key of Valour, and tells the tale of three beautiful women bound together by the arrival of a mysterious note. That’s all I’m going to say about this one!

Other Woman_Hauterfly

5. The Other Woman by Jane Green

If perfectly done up chick-lit is what you want to read this summer, The Other Woman is for you. Think of it as the paperback version of the movie Monster-In-Law. Likeable main characters, an annoying mother-in-law, and lots of laughs in between make up this funny book.

6. The Cynster Series by Stephanie Laurens

Based on the lives of six atrociously handsome brothers, this series is set in the Regency Era. Think courteous men, hooped skirts, ruched bodices, and impeccable manners. If you’re a romantic at heart and love everything about the good old ages, I think you’re going to fall in love with the Cynsters.

Fangirl GoodReads

7. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

For all the Potterheads out there, fans of The Ring, and the ones who are crazy about the Twilight series, Fangirl is a book that will have you exclaiming, “This is SO me!” It’s all about the world of fandoms and the art of fan fiction. I’d label it as a fairly easy read and another ideal book to take on vacation.

Choc CHip Cookie Amazon_Hauterfly

8. Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke

A man is found dead while munching on the protagonist’s chocolate chip cookies and she sets out to solve the crime. An interesting premise, this book also includes easy-to-follow recipes that you can try at home. How fun! I’d say this book is a definite must-read. If it doesn’t have you craving for some cookies, I’ll eat my words!

Sisters Goodreads_Hauterfly

9. Sisters by Danielle Steel

If you want to be reminded of how awesome your sisters are, this book will do the job. It’s all about the warm and nurturing bond that four sisters share with each other. The story tugs at all the right heartstrings. If you tear up easily, I’d suggest keeping a box of tissues within reach!

10. The Zoya Factor by Anuja Chauhan

If you haven’t read this book already, I wonder what you’ve been up to! Anuja Chauhan weaves magic between the pages of her stories. The Zoya Factor is the story of Nikhil Khoda, captain of the Indian cricket team, and Zoya Singh Solanki, a not-so-famous ad agency executive. You can imagine the rest. It’s the sort of book that you’ll want to read on the couch, at the dinner table, and even inside the shower. Unputdownable!
