Russian Soldiers ‘Systematically Raped’ 25 Ukrainian Women, 9 Of Which Are Pregnant. This Is Terrible
Wars when waged bring destructible and irreversible consequences that all parties involved have to live with. The civilians always end up becoming collateral damage in wars with the danger and uncertainty of their lives looming over their heads constantly. We have experienced this with both the World Wars and the current ongoing Russia-Ukraine war is no different either. Reports of horrific war crimes have surfaced from this war where Ukrainian women have been inhumanely treated by Russian soldiers. Recently, it has been reported that they kept Ukrainian women in a basement where they raped and impregnated girls and women between 14 to 24 years of age.
Russian Soldiers Raped Ukrainian Women
As per the latest report by BBC, several women were raped during Russian soldiers’ occupation of a town called Bucha. This town is located just outside of Kyiv and was held down by the Russian soldiers for several weeks. Ukraine’s ombudswoman for human rights, Lyudmyla Denisova has said that around 25 girls and women between 14 to 24 years of age were kept hostage in the basement of a house and were ‘systematically raped’ by the Russian soldiers. 9 of these women are now pregnant.

She has also said that the soldiers told the girls and women that they would rape them to the point where they would not want any ‘sexual contact with any man’ and also to ‘prevent them from having Ukrainian children.’ Lyudmyla Denisova said that she is receiving many calls on the support helpline numbers. She was also asked if it was possible to assess the scale of these sexual crimes. To this, Lyudmyla said that currently, it is impossible because not all the women are ready to tell what happened to them. She also went on to add that the majority of the calls they have been receiving are for psychological support.

What is happening to the Ukrainian women there is absolutely heartbreaking to hear. We cannot even begin to imagine what they are going through.
It has also been reported that close to a thousand Ukrainian soldiers have laid down their arms in eastern Ukraine’s Mariupol, that has been surrounded by Moscow’s troops.
