From Margot Robbie To Masaba, Everyone Loved The Return Of Pink In 2022

Colours carved the biggest trends in the year 2022. From Valentino’s Pink PP to our growing love for highlighter green, shades ruled trend charts like never before. Sitting beside a gamut of other standout styles like the cut-outs, low-rise denim, and the Y2K nostalgia, colours painted every red carpet, and runway. It all started with the showcase of Valentino’s Pink PP collection that saw Zendaya drenched in the flashy shade. During one of the first rounds of Paris Fashion Week, this year, the Italian fashion house painted every wall, every floor, and every celebrity with the brightest hue of pink. And it’s then we started falling for the colour pink.

From bold blazers, micro skirts, and shoes to sarees, the colour was literally everywhere. Symbolising nostalgia, and romance, the shade occupied the shelves of some of the biggest designer stores and found a spot in many shopping carts. The colour this time around wasn’t just a symbol of feminity, but power. Later in the month of April, actress Margot Robbie graced our screens with the first look of her much-talked-about Barbie movie. The actress packaged a mix of retro-polka and trend with the signature shade that always painted Barbie, and her plastic world. The colour encouraged more shoppers to trust it, and buy a piece in pink, followed by a special invitation to the world of pop culture.

Walking for the luxury fashion house–Valentino, were celebrities who chose a piece from the preppy collection for some special red carpets. Even at the Met Gala, pink was an attendee with stars like Sebastian Stan who choose to wear the shade. And not just the girls, but men too loved the shade in every form and cut. An example closer to home was actor Ranveer Singh, who dipped himself in the glory of Valentino pink for a special event.

Euphoria, the biggest hit on HBO, also participated in the trend with eyelids, and lips dipped in pink. The obsession reached the top when the show’s key characters chose to wear the colour in different forms.

At even this year’s Cannes Film Festival, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan packed a look in the colour. The actress was seen dripping pink in a crisp Valentino pantsuit. Pink also arrived as a messenger of hope for a better tomorrow, as weaved in elements like a beanie or a bag, worn by celebrities on momentous occasions. At the Grammys, Justin Bieber too displayed his love for the Barbie colour by putting a beanie, like a cherry on the cake. Somewhere in the middle of the year, the shade found a new face and form of minimalism. It was then the head-to-toe pink looks squeezed to just an element, in the form of bags, beanies, shoes or makeup. Soon, many appreciated the shade in the tiniest of forms.

Many versions, and hues of the colour came crawling back on the runway through designer labels like Dior and Versace. The colour was used to tailor-make newer designs, and carve fresher trends for the year 2022. It was then, that many forgot about Pantone’s very peri, and indulged in the flavourful nostalgia of the shade–gulaabi. As revisited by Valentino, the shade was a favourite amongst both Margot Robbie and Masaba Gupta.

Somewhere in March pink, entered resort wear through Jacquemus’ “Le Splash” showcase in Hawaii. The collection experimented with colour through snazzy knitwear, and holiday-appropriate styles. The colour also ruled the label’s famous micro bag design.

The shade also invented two style aesthetics–Barbiecore, and Ranicore, as translated by Indian fashion enthusiasts. Closer to home, the pink commonly known as the rani pink was a festive favourite amongst celebrities at Diwali parties. Bringing the cheer of the season of glitz, and glam, stars chose the shade to celebrate the festival of lights.

Borrowing the spirit of Barbiecore, pink was soon captured by many Indian designers in their wedding appropriate collections as well. The shade was also a protagonist in Louis Vuitton’s India-exclusive collection that celebrated the rani pink like never before. Soon, the internet’s most loved stars, and celebrities were seen dipping their toes in the colour of the year.

And as clothes hosted a happy party for the shade, jewellery and makeup appreciated the popularity of pink through festive collections.
