“Walking On The Stage As Myself Is The Biggest Challenge For Me,” Says Manoj Bajpayee, Showstopper For Designer Samant Chauhan
It is that time of the year, people, when fashion is on everyone’s mind. The Fashion Design Council Of India and Lakmé Fashion Week have come together for a physical edition of the FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week after two whole years, and the capital is lit with models, designers, celebrity showstoppers and influencers sashaying around in their stylish best. In fact, after an opening showcase by designer Rahul Mishra, Day 1 of FDCI X LFW saw celebs like Soha Ali Khan turn showstoppers. Just this evening, The Family Man actor Manoj Bajpayee walked the ramp for designer Samant Chauhan. Now see, Manoj Bajpayee has karara style and swagger, that much toh we all agree with. And when it is celebrities like these that ooze easy charm, it’s natural to think they’d be confident to take on any challenge. But would you believe it, they’re just as nervous as you or I would be to be the cynosure of a live audience that just wants to watch you walk down the ramp for a few minutes!?
Well, that’s legit how the actor feels, as he told the media gathered at Delhi’s Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium for the first day of the fashion week. “I must tell you, I am always very nervous. You know, you can ask me to walk on the stage in character, I am fine. But walking on stage as Manoj Bajpayee, talking to you all as Manoj Bajpayee is the biggest challenge for me!”

If you’re a creative or an artist, you’ll find so much truth and reliability in his statement. Not every actor or artist is a walking-talking model of confidence all the time. Believe it or not, most people use art to express their true authentic selves, because IRL, as themselves, they might be shy or introverted to do so. For actors, in particular, putting on a character is like trying on a costume or a mask that lets them become unrecognisable and become someone else entirely. And that’s when they are the most comfortable.
Bajpayee also spoke about the dying art of handloom, and how he has been associated with several activists, including designers like Samant Chauhan, in helping the cause. Chauhan presented his collection, titled ‘Winter Rain’ on Day 1 of FDCI X LFW, featuring fabrics like Chanderi Silk, organza and cotton, imposed with metallic embroideries.
