Genelia D’Souza’s Idea Of A Perfect Saree Is Not Too Filmy And We Love It!

Genelia D’Souza’s Idea Of A Perfect Saree Is Not Too Filmy And We Love It!

The term saree always reminds me of Sushmita Sen in Main Hoo Na. I mean Miss Chandni really defined my love for sarees and of course had us sing, “tumhein jo maine dekha….” Or even Sridevi dancing in the hills wearing beautiful chiffon drapes, in the film Chandni, who influenced the way we styled the palla. Bollywood has defined the classic Indian drapes in not one but many ways. But what  prominently is being loved by star wardrobes today, is the idea of a semi-contemporary saree, that at times cheers for bandhani, batik or comes teamed with a crisp white shirt and sneakers, which definitely isn’t too filmy. Offering a similar vibe is actress Genelia D’Souza who never fails to surprise us with her beautiful sarees. Be it floral, sequins or mirrors, the Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na actress has a place for every kind.

Striking a pose in a sunny hue saree, she paired the drape with a white cropped blouse and kept it minimal with just a statement piece of gold jewellery, eyeliner and an orange bindi to top it all off. Something I really love about Genelia’s taste in fashion is her idea of effortless styling that keeps a safe distance from OTT designs, making her the semi-minimalist dresser that she is.

The fail-proof recipe of styling Indian wear always comes with a mandatory mention of statement accessories and in most cases a pair of chaandbaalis or danglers. Recreating a bohemian look, I love how Genelia elevated the gorgeous Ritu Kumar black silk saree, with a silver nose pin, black bangles long jhumki earrings and a bindi of course. The earrings have my heart.

Giving the ethnic staple, a modern touch, this look is what defines DIY fashion styling. Pairing the simple, elegant pear green saree with a crisp white shirt, Genelia proves the easiest way to wrap yourself with a drape, doesn’t have to come with much trouble. Dig out your crop top, or a basic white shirt and you’re good to go. Also accessorizing can do wonders too.

Uff, the perfect look for a cocktail party, this Neeta Lulla Sequinned number is your saviour for a friend’s wedding festivities. Not too glam, not too dull, adding glimmer in just the perfect proportion. Plus, the beaded choker is a subtle mention of heirloom-worthy jewellery to flaunt at weddings.

Florals are never off the table, especially when worn as ethnic silhouettes. Breezy and whimsical, we are impressed with Genelia’s idea of balancing out the statement flowers with basic oxidised temple earrings. Fresh and fab, the linen drape from Anavila is best for summers.
