Birthday Girl Dia Mirza’s Fashion Language Narrates A Tale Through Her Sustainable Closet. We Need This!

There is no denying that actors are some of the people who have the greatest influence on the world. Whether it’s the narrative they choose to tell through a film, an outfit they wear or the politics they subscribe to, every bit leaves an impact, good or bad, on the viewer’s minds. And with the changing world and alarming issues,  one amongst the list of celebrities who have become mindful of what they talk or endorse is actress Dia Mirza. Lending her voice and platform for things that aim to contribute to the growing world. The goodwill ambassador UNEP is a strong advocate of fashion that cares for the environment. With a closet that is a beautiful mix of homegrown, sustainable, labels with a thought to revive the Indian heritage and welcome it to the modern world, here are 5 of my favourite pieces from the actress’ wardrobe that define change.

Archana Jaju Saree

With a strong affection towards handloom weaves, Dia Mirza’s ethic wear closet offers a good mix of traditional silk and Chettinad cotton sarees. Proof of which is the yellow Archana Jaju number. An intricately handpainted kalamkari, Benarsi silk saree blooming with motifs of birds and flowers. What additionally was beautiful about the drape was the use of organic colours for every detail, marvellously painted by the artisans at Sri Kalahasthi. A true-sunshine hue that does the conscious fashion talk, the piece is a great addition to wardrobes of sustainable fashion enthusiasts.

Raw Mango Wedding Saree

Celebrating love and everything in between, Dia Mirza tied the knot with businessman Vaibhav Rekhi on February 15, 2021, in a beautiful eco-friendly wedding set-up. Just like the ceremony that aimed towards zero-waste, Dia Mirza’s choice of wedding saree was an ode to the Indian handloom and textile heritage. Opting for a simpler yet heirloom-worthy drape by homegrown label Raw Mango, the actress’ idea of saying yes to the drape came with the thought of reuse and not waste (which happens with most of the heavily crafted bridal outfits). A great option for the brides who believe in championing sustainable fashion, the classic red can easily be your pick for the D-Day, or add to your sustainable trousseau.

The Injiri Dress

The latest addition to her Instagram grid is the beautiful red satin dress by the brand Injiri. Synonymous to ‘real India,’ Dia Mirza through her sartorial pick believes in the brand language that aims to appreciate the sustainable traditional Indian textile techniques as it celebrates the skilful hands of the age-old Indian weavers. Cinched with a belt, Dia yet again displays her love for the comfy roomy dresses as she slides right into the weekend (all things class and comfort).

Masaba Gupta’s Anti-Plastic Collection

Endorsing a special line of clothing born out of a collaboration between designer Masaba Gupta, Ogily India and UNEP India. Dia Mirza opted for an asymmetrical floral kurta paired with white swan motif palazzo pants from the collection. Narrating ‘ I will wear out plastic,’ the kurta comes with a unique attached accessory that turns into a wallet or at times even a shopping bag. From the shade to the silhouette, the piece as worn by the actress can easily make the cut for a casual wear closet (fashionable and sustainable, the combination we’re looking for, right Dia?).

Studio Medium Ensemble

Celebrating National Handloom Day 2020, the actress who has been a constant cheerleader for the rich legacy of Indian textiles, Dia Mirza’s choice of saree is all things perfect. Donning the drape from Studio Medium, which tops the list for actresses like Vidya Balan and Rakulpreet as they step out for saree shopping. The beautiful pink jamdani saree teamed with a matching blouse in a darker shade of the same colour, is a testimony of the brand’s ideology which is sustainable craftsmanship while practising the usage of natural dyes. The saree is simple, chic and best to serve the minimalist in you.

While each piece from the Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein actress’ wardrobe is like a storyboard that hails from the deepest pockets of the nation, what also makes it more special is her idea behind consciously choosing each of them as she makes sure to pen her ideas down for her followers to learn. Thank you Dia Mirza for making us fall in love with fashion that comes with a purpose and has so much more to recite. Happy Birthday you star!!
