Uorfi Javed Struggles To Rent A Place In Mumbai, Says It’s Impossible As A Single Muslim Actress

Mumbai is known for its hustle and bustle, and landlords in the city are known for their strict rules for tenants. Unfortunately, single women face the most stringent rules when it comes to renting an apartment. From asking for extra money to signing multiple contracts and providing extra references, single women always face challenges in finding a suitable place to rent. In fact, some landlords have even gone as far as dictating how women should dress and behave with dress codes and bizarre rules. And even actresses have to struggle to find an apartment in this city of dreams. Recently, former Bigg Boss OTT contestant and internet’s favourite Uorfi Javed opened up about how tough it is to rent a flat in Mumbai.

Just like every other girl in the city, even Uorfi couldn’t escape the troubles of renting a flat in Mumbai. The former Bigg Boss OTT participant was quick to turn to Twitter to voice her problems. Uorfi Javed revealed that as a single Muslim actress she is finding it impossible to rent a flat as the Muslim landlords refuse to rent their homes to her due to her taste in fashion and Hindu landlords have a problem with her religion. She further elaborated that some people have even refused to rent their flats to her because of all the threats she gets from political leaders. Pointing out that she understands the issue with threats, the actress said that it’s tough to find a flat on rent in Mumbai.

It’s not very surprising that several Twitter users could relate to her struggles and said that they hope she finds a home real soon. But there were also those who criticised her for her sartorial choices and claimed that her actions have landed her in trouble.

Finding a place to rent in the city can be a daunting task, TBH! And to add to that, we have all the paperwork and negotiation to deal with and everything gets much worse when you have a landlord who wants to take your life decisions for you because of their orthodox views and values. This is also why several independent single women, who are unwilling to bow down and follow sexist rules that violate their personal boundaries, end up struggling to find flats on rent or simply end up paying inflated rents to live comfortably.
