Just like every other girl in the city, even Uorfi couldn’t escape the troubles of renting a flat in Mumbai. The former Bigg Boss OTT participant was quick to turn to Twitter to voice her problems. Uorfi Javed revealed that as a single Muslim actress she is finding it impossible to rent a flat as the Muslim landlords refuse to rent their homes to her due to her taste in fashion and Hindu landlords have a problem with her religion. She further elaborated that some people have even refused to rent their flats to her because of all the threats she gets from political leaders. Pointing out that she understands the issue with threats, the actress said that it’s tough to find a flat on rent in Mumbai.
Muslim owners don’t want to rent me house cause of the way I dress, Hindi owners don’t want to rent me cause I’m Muslim. Some owners have an issue with the political threats I get . Finding a rental apartment in mumbai is so tuff

I hope you find a nice house to live in. Due to the thinking of some people, such behavior with you is also not fair. https://t.co/eW5QDlQy2c

Finding a place to rent in the city can be a daunting task, TBH! And to add to that, we have all the paperwork and negotiation to deal with and everything gets much worse when you have a landlord who wants to take your life decisions for you because of their orthodox views and values. This is also why several independent single women, who are unwilling to bow down and follow sexist rules that violate their personal boundaries, end up struggling to find flats on rent or simply end up paying inflated rents to live comfortably.

Having said that, it looks like it’ll take a while before Uorfi Javed and many others like her are able to find a home without prejudice. Until then, they will have continue their battle with society and messed up social norms to find a place to call home.
