Ranbir Kapoor Says Alia Bhatt Is A Better Mother Than Wife. Umm, Ye Compliment Tha?
This comment reeks of sexism.
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor embraced parenthood after the birth of their daughter Raha last year. Since then, he has said some very undignified things about Alia which she should have called but sadly we don’t see that happening anytime soon! From calling her dal chawal to fat-shaming her when she was carrying Raha, Ranbir’s rather sexist comments have not gone unnoticed by us. In a recent interview, the Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar actor said yet another upsetting thing about Alia. He rated her to be a better mother than a wife! This is one of the many moments we wished he hadn’t said anything. Sigh.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, who asked Ranbir Kapoor to compare Alia Bhatt as a mother and a wife, he said that she was a ‘better’ mother. Okay, so, two things are extremely wrong with this conversation. Number 1 – why did Kannan feel the need to ask such a sexist question? What did he establish about Alia by asking this question? Number 2 – Instead of shutting Kanna down for asking this stupid question, he went ahead to answer it.

Two men comparing a woman as a mother and wife is proof of classic misogyny. That, too, the responses shamed Alia Bhatt, which is just pathetic. This is clearly not the first time that Ranbir Kapoor has said crappy things about Alia. He previously fat-shamed her when she was pregnant with Raha. He said that she is ‘fail-owing’ meaning, she is ‘getting fatter’.

In another instance, Ranbir said that he wouldn’t want Raha to be like Alia because the latter is ‘too loud’. If he had such a problem with ‘loud’ women, he shouldn’t have married one. He thinks he is complimenting Alia, but none of his comments sound like one. Clearly, he does not think twice before answering in interviews because somehow his responses are always demeaning and sexist.

It is 2023, and wife jokes are not cool anymore, please. And if celebrities of Ranbir Kapoor’s stature normalise sexist wife jokes, the young generation who looks up to him is going to learn the same.
