Legendary Malayalam Actress KPAC Lalitha Dies At 73, CM Pinarayi Vijayan And Others Mourn Her Demise

Malayalam actress KPAC Lalitha known for acting in over 500 films passed away on Tuesday night in Kochi. The legendary actress had been hospitalized recently due to ill-health. Following the treatment, the actress was brought back to her son, Sidharth Bharathan’s house in Kochi. The 73-year-old actress was just a few days away from turning 74 before she passed away. Born on 25 February 1948 KPAC Lalitha is known for playing strong characters in Malayalam cinema.

Several public figures, celebrities as well as political leaders mourned the demise of the actress. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also shared condolence via Twitter. Take a look at these tweets.

Malayalam actor Mammotty also shared a tweet to mourn the demise of Lalitha. His tweet in Malayalam translates to “I have lost someone I cherish so much, respectfully with memories that will never leave” as per Twitter.

Who Is KPAC Lalitha?

Born to a photographer from Kayamkulam, KPAC Lalitha was a passionate dancer. Her birth name is Maheshwari Amma but she was given the screen name Lalitha when she started acting in plays. Lalitha started acting in plays when she was 10 years old and later went on to join the Kerala People’s Arts Clubs aka KPAC. After she started acting in the movies KPAC was added to her screen name to make her stand apart from the other actresses with the same name. KPAC Lalitha has acted in over 550 Malayalam movies as well as some Tamil films.

KPAC Lalitha married filmmaker Bharathan in 1978. She had two children with him – daughter Sreekutty and son Sidharth. The Malayalam actress won several awards including two national and four state awards. She won her first National Awar for her performance in the 1990 film Amaram for Best Supporting Actress. She won her second award in 2000 in the same category for Shantham. KPAC Lalitha won four Kerala State Film Awards for Second Best Actress from 1975 to 1991. She also published an autobiography titled Katha Thudarum which translates to ‘story to be continued’. Her book won the Cherukad Award in the year 2013.
