Bappi Lahiri Dies At 69 Due To Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Family Releases Official Statement

Just a few days ago the entertainment industry lost a legendary singer and nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar and just last night we lost Bengali singer Sandhya Mukherjee. And even before we could get back on our feet, the news of another death has sent shock waves across the nation once again. Music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri died at Criticare Hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday, 15 February. The singer was 69-years-old. An official statement has been released by Bappi Lahiri’s family stating that his funeral will take place tomorrow following the arrival of his son Bappa from the US. In the official statement, the family shared that the music composer passed away around midnight while seeking blessings for his soul.

Bappi Lahiri had been admitted to the hospital a month ago due to a lung infection caused by obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), according to a news report by News 18. The singer was treated and discharged on Monday but his health condition deteriorated on Tuesday and a doctor was called at home to check on him. He was once again taken to the hospital where he passed away just a little before midnight as per the doctors quoted by the news website.

The veteran singer, also known as Bappi Da reportedly died due to obstructive sleep apnea. Juhu’s Criticare Hospital also released an official statement following the death of the singer. According to the statement, Bappi Lahiri had been suffering from obstructive sleep apnea for the last year and was admitted to the hospital on several occasions due to the same reason. He was treated and recovered from the same in the past.
