Marvel Stands In Solidarity With LGBTQ+ Community Amid Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill Controversy
We all love heroes and Marvel has given us most of our favourite ones. But it looks like Marvel just became the heroes we need in today’s time. Taking to Twitter, Marvel Studios announced their support for the LGBTQ+ community by denouncing ‘any and all’ anti-LGBTQ laws. This comes in the backdrop of the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill passed by the Florida Senate, which aims to ban teachers from speaking or discussing LGBTQ topics like gender identity or sexual orientation with students until after their third grade.
In the Twitter statement, Marvel Studios said, “We strongly denounce any and ALL legislation that infringes on the basic human rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. Marvel Studios stands for hope, inclusivity and strength; and we proudly stand with the community. Today, we pledge to continue our strong commitment as allies who promote the values of equality, acceptance and respect.” Take a look at their statement.

Earlier, the CEO of Disney, Bob Chapek faced backlash after a memo explaining the decision by the organisation to remain silent on the legislation was leaked. Soon after Disney stated that they ‘unequivocally stand in support’ of their LGBTQ+ employees while adding the corporate statements don’t make much of a difference. The Mouse House further stated that corporate statements are often ‘weaponized’ by the parties involved to create a bigger controversy. It said that such a move can be ‘counterproductive’.

Following the internal backlash, the CEO of Disney also issued a written apology stating that the LGBTQ+ needed him to be a stronger ally in the fight for equal rights but he failed them, as per New York Post. But this did not stop the Disney employees from staging a walkout in protest.
