Konkona Sensharma Vouches For Female Drivers At Mumbai Airport, Supports Tillotama Shome in Demanding Equal Opportunites for Them
Given how far we have come in terms of being evolutionary beings, it is surprising how we yet discriminate between men and women even today. A woman might do everything a man does and still, it will not be enough! Of the many stereotypes that women are subjected to, the most annoying one is that women cannot be good drivers. In general, people raise eyebrows when they see a woman driving a car, cab or even an autorickshaw. Recently, actor Tillotama Shome appealed on her Twitter to specifically ask for more women cab drivers at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). And now, filmmaker and actor Konkona Sensharma has also supported Shome’s appeal on the matter.

Taking to Twitter, Tillotama wrote that she asked for a woman driver specifically. She also appealed to the Tweeple that they should do the same. Her tweet read, “I chose a woman driver again at @CSMIA_Official.Please ask for this, they don’t get chosen as much as the men. There are 5 zones for men and only 1 for women drivers! And they are parked at lane zero. But we know the power of 0!!

Konkona Sensharma retweeted Tillotama’s appeal, saying that these women have gotten their cars on loans and are also ‘excellent’ drivers but they do not get chosen. She also said that at the prepaid counter, it is assumed that you want to male driver unless one asks for a female one. Her tweet read, “These wonderful women have got cars on loans, are excellent drivers but don’t get chosen thanks to patriarchal reflexes. At the pre-paid taxi counter, it is assumed you’d want a male driver unless you ask for a woman driver. Ask for a female driver! #equalopportunitiesforall.”
