“Will Make Sure I’m Heard,” Guneet Monga Reacts To Being Interrupted During Oscars Speech

A viral video on Twitter opened our eyes to the subtle sexism and racism that happened on Oscar’s stage this year. The video raised questions about why The Elephant Whisperers producer Guneet Monga was not given the opportunity to give her winning speech and instead was interrupted in the middle. The producer has finally broken her silence on this and has put forth her feelings about it during a recent interview.

For the unversed, producer Guneet Monga and director Kartiki Gonsalves bagged the Oscars for their documentary short film, The Elephant Whisperers. When the duo went up to the stage to accept the awards, Guneet Monga’s speech was cut halfway through with a music cue. The producer gave the same speech when she was backstage and the words were meant to be heard from the stage itself!

Guneet Monga finally reacted to this incident and expressed her feelings about it. Monga said that the gesture shocked her and she could not hide that expression while she was on the stage. Furthermore, Guneet Monga expressed her annoyance at not being able to give her Oscars speech when she just wanted to say aloud that it was “India’s first Oscars.” Describing it elaborately, the producer also said that she felt anxious about not getting her share at the moment but also is determined to go back on that stage again and complete her speech, as per the news.
