Emma Watson Opens Up About Why She Almost Left The ‘Harry Potter’ Franchise. And We Totally Get It

All Potterheads make some noise. Why? Well, because Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts is just around the corner! But what is also killing me furthermore is the fact that there are so many secrets and revelations that are being dropped in the HBO Max’s reunion special that the wait feels excruciatingly long. What revelation am I talking about? Well, the one where Emma Watson was almost about to leave the Harry Potter franchise. Yep, you read that right!

As per reports, David Yates, the director of Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix, revealed that Emma Watson, who played the character of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise, was considering walking away from the franchise because of the pressure of stardom.

Emma Watson herself spoke about the pressure she felt while rising to fame to Rupert Grint, stating, “I think I was scared… I don’t know if you ever felt like it got to a tipping point where you were like, ‘This is kind of forever now.’ … The fame thing had finally hit home in a big way.” In fact, it wasn’t just the actress who felt the pressure, Rupert Grint – who played Ron Weasley – and Daniel Radcliffe – who played Harry Potter – also felt the pressure of rising fame.

Rupert Grint added to the point Emma Watson made by revealing how he also felt the same emotions but they never spoke about it. He said that all three of them were going through the same thing at different paces and it didn’t occur to them that the other two were facing similar emotions. Even Daniel Radcliffe said that they never spoke about it on the film sets since they were just kids and didn’t really ask others about what they were going through.

This was not all that was revealed on HBO Max’s reunion special, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. According to Buzzfeed, Emma Watson further revealed that she had a major crush on Tom Felton and what made her “fall in love” with him.

The Little Women actress said that she fell in love with Tom Felton during one of the tutoring lessons where they were given the assignment to draw what God looked like. Emma Watson reminisces, “The assignment that had been given was to draw what you thought God looked like, and Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard… And I just don’t know how to say it — I just fell in love with him.”

Emma Watson remembered how she used to check for his number on the call sheet every day and if his number was there on the call sheet then it would be an exciting day for her. But Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, was three years older than her and considered her to be like his younger sister. And even though the two never dated, The Forgotten Battle actor knew about her crush on him.

Having said that, Tom Felton did say that Emma Watson and he share a special bond even after the Harry Potter franchise was over. He said, “I became very protective over her… Yeah, I’ve always had a soft spot for her and that continues to this day. There’s always been something that’s like, I don’t know, a kinship.”

I don’t know about you peeps, but I honestly, can’t wait anymore for the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts to drop so I can sit and spend the first day of the year watching it. I mean, who wouldn’t want to do that?
