Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Is In Her Royal Best For Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan.’ Here’s When The Film Is Set To Release

I can’t keep calm, cos the first look posters of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan AKA PS-I is out. Featuring actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, PS-I is the acclaimed director’s much-awaited period drama. Being a fan of his work, the character posters have left me surprised and I am intrigued to watch the film. The announcement came in as a shock for the internet. Why? Because it dropped on our screens minus the hype.

Dressed as an Indian warrior princess, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s avatar as Nandini for the film reminds us of her look in Jodha Akbar. In the poster we see, Aishwarya wearing a maang tika, gold necklaces, earrings and a nose pin, along with a maroon lehenga saree. Other character posters reveal actor Vikram’s character Aditya Karikalan riding a horse as he tries to grab a sword, and a still of actor Karthi’s intense character portrayal in the film. Another image reveals actress Trisha’s royal look in the film as Kundavai, who is seen decked up in silk attire, wearing a huge hair bun and regal jewellery.

Known for his larger than life and distinct film aesthetic, the film will also mark the fourth collaboration between Mani Ratnam and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, post Raavan that released in 2010 (isn’t this exciting?). And these first snippets from the movie have fuelled our excitement. Just like his previous films, the Mani Ratnam directorial will dance on the melodies of A.R. Rahman’s music.

The film, based on the Chola dynasty revolves around the Tamil novel titled–Ponniyin Selvan. Dropping the images, the makers of the film took to their social media handles to mark producer Allirajah Subaskaran’s birthday. Divided into a number of instalments, the first part of the film is slated to release on September 30, 2022, in languages Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, respectively.
