Ash To Play Revenge-Seeking Woman In Mani Ratnam’s Next Film, And We’re Here For It

Period dramas are still a big trend in Bollywood, and Mani Ratnam is currently working on one as we speak. Turns out the director has cast Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in this next movie, where she is rumoured to be playing the character of Nandini, the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, who served as the chancellor and treasurer of the Chola kingdom. Her character is written as a mysterious, power-hungry woman who manipulates her husband to plan the downfall of the Chola empire because she has been wronged by them. Sounds like a conspiracy we can’t wait to watch!

The questions is, is Ash perfect for the role of a conniving woman? Hell yasss! She’s played the role of the antagonist in Khakee (2005) and Dhoom 2 (2006) and with loads of conviction. She can certainly pull this off too, given that it’s a period film and right up her alley. Remember her stellar performances in Devdas and Jodha Akbar?

Aishwarya Rai was last seen in Fanney Khan, which failed to impress, but with her picking up this negative role, which is set in the 10th century, she’s bound to make a big comeback. The role isn’t quite like the usual ones played by actresses in period dramas (read Kangana in Manikarnika or Deepika in Padmavat). The dark side to this story is what’s got us intrigued. Mohan Babu will playing the part of Ash’s husband in the movie.

Meanwhile, Aishwarya is all set to walk the red carpet for Cannes 2019. Keep watching Hauterfly for all the updates on that.
