This Inspiring Video Proves That A Woman’s Freedom First Begins At Home!

If you’re a professional woman in India – be it an actress, a journalist, a sportswoman, or even an MBA – more often than not, you’re expected to put your career on the backburner post marriage. The reason? Your new family and the responsibilities that come with it require your undivided attention. It’s not that a woman is incapable of handling these two different but important parts of her life – i.e. home and career — but sometimes it’s a matter of balancing priorities. While this is the classic case for millions of Indian women, there are others who have been encouraged to take up many more challenges in life.

As women, we have the innate capability to multitask — chop vegetables while reading a research report, attend parent-teacher meetings then rush off to the boardroom, evaluate family investments after finishing up household chores (which, a study reveals, takes up to six hours on average). Marriage doesn’t need to mean the end of your career; heck, it might just be the start! Here’s how life can indeed change after marriage for a woman — for the better, of course:

1. Shared Responsibilities

It’s imperative for families to share the responsibilities of running a household seamlessly. After all, each hour not spent in the kitchen providing for every other member of the family means an opportunity to do something different.

2. Varied Advice

A new family brings with it a fresh perspective on how one views life both inside and outside the home. A different worldview can help a married woman take new yet informed decisions in life.

3. A Boost In Morale

A little nudge in the right direction, a few words of appreciation…the smallest things can sometimes work wonders for a woman’s self-confidence and help her uphold the promises she makes to herself. Don’t just let her be the star, make her the hero!

4. The Freedom To Be Herself

Traditional thinking dictates that a girl is born as a daughter and a sister. Once married, she becomes a wife, a daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, mother, etc. Amidst all this, she forgets one person — herself. But what if a solid marriage gave her the freedom to be HER? Now that’s a powerful thought.

5. More People To Fall Back On

When crisis strikes, people always turn to those they trust. In the case of married women, that number increases from just her husband to other family members as well, giving her further confidence to take that leap of faith or overcome difficulties.

A fantastic case in point is the story of Afroz Jahan, the first female pradhan of Nizampur village in Lucknow to bring about a significant change in the lives of people there. All this, thanks to the support and encouragement she received from her husband and mother-in-law. Freedom in her marital home helped her to not only make a better life for herself but also to transform the village under her care.

On the 70th anniversary of India’s independence, there’s no better way to celebrate a woman’s potential than to watch Afroz’s inspiring video below and see how #ChangeBeginsAtHome!
