Delhite Finds “Tu” Instead Of “Aap” In Mumbai Hindi Unacceptable. Ab Aap Tweeple Ke Memes Dekho!
Maza aaya!Being a complete stranger to the culture and customs of Mumbai, I was surprised by the many ways of this city. The whistle call did surprise me initially because it kinda felt like eve-teasing at first but then my friends told me that it was a normal thing here. Similarly, a Twitter user has found Mumbai’s language and way of addressing people quite offensive. The user tweeted about it and now that opinion has received a severe backlash from other people on the social media platform. More than a backlash, users actually came up with some hilarious and witty answers to it in the form of memes!
The Twitter user whose account goes by the name Prat Panc found Mumbai’s Hindi-speaking culture quite unacceptable. The user wrote that even strangers in Mumbai address others using “Tu” instead of “Aap”. Furthermore, she also pointed out that the role of patriarchy also plays a major role here because the people in Mumbai can address the mothers and grandmothers using “Tu” but will not dare do that with their fathers.
Never engage with Bombay people in Hindi.
You could be complete strangers and they’ll still feel free to address you with a ‘Tu’.
Unacceptable behaviour.

The same Marathi speaking crowd will use ‘tu’ for their mothers & grandmothers but they dare not use ‘tu’ for their fathers, grandfathers or any other male figure w authority.
Patriarchy FTW! 💪🏻
They understand the concept of respect but their respect is reserved for men LOL

To begin with, these were some of the funniest responses to the OG tweet. It will surely make you go ROFL! Also, the wit and creativity displayed by the Twitter user to create these memes are pure brilliance!

People from Naarth also use "tu". Daler Mehndi started the trend by singing "Tu nak Tu nak Tu un"
He should have been singing "Aap nak Aap nak Aap Un" https://t.co/sXGvjZUf5j pic.twitter.com/FNBxUVqm5J— Sri Sri Thakkar (@OyeThakkar) February 8, 2023

There was another user who had a subtle political remark in his defence. Another user got offended by the fact that the user had called it “Bombay” and not “Mumbai”. The OG tweet also sparked a conversation over the language-speaking culture of Delhi and Mumbai, and many users took this opportunity to bash the usage of slang by Delhites during their normal conversation.
Tu and aap are both okay with me but I draw the line at mitron.

Prat Panc’s opinion gave rise to a number of arguments by other users on the platform. One user corrected Prat Panc and wrote that Mumbai people rather use “Tereko” and “Mereko” instead of “Tu” and they are not ashamed of it. In fact, the user wrote her tweet also in the same language as a way to show disagreement with Prat Panc’s original tweet!
Seriously? There is no "aap" in Marathi, and of course Bambaiyya Hindi takes its "tu" and "tereko" from "tula," etc. As a northerner who has lived a long time in Bambai, I say, "Mumbadevi, save us from the ignorant chauvinism of northerners." https://t.co/tyodl7WIrc

It’s important to understand that language differs in every state, city and town as well. Without knowing about the culture and the origin of a language, it’s not right to judge it especially if you have not known that place really well. India has a rich culture and there is diversity in our country, it is really insensitive of people to bash any city’s way of speaking a language because there aren’t any set rules for that, we believe!
