Amidst Hijab Protests, Twitter Users Bash FIFA Body For Releasing Video With An Iranian Fan In Hijab
The backlash is justified!Iran is witnessing a lot of turmoil since the death of Mahsa Amini. The Anti-Hijab protests by the Iranian citizens made headlines and the world saw how the authorities tried to suppress the voice of their people. After continuous efforts by women to get the freedom of dressing up however they want to, a recent video by the FIFA World Cup has clearly hurt their feelings by promoting something very much against of what they are striving for. In the video, a woman fan in a hijab can be seen and Twitterati has shown strong disapproval of it.

Iran is going to play against England in the opening match of the World Cup 2022. And a video was released on the official Twitter handle of the FIFA World Cup, where a woman can be seen wearing a hijab, and her face was painted with the country’s flag colours, and Iran was also written on it.
The video received a severe backlash from Twitterati. One of the users wrote “Shame on you” in the comment section of the tweet. People were also quick to call out the hypocrisy of the federation, saying that the women who are not even allowed to watch the game, are being made the face of the advertisement.
Shame on you for distorting the reality!

People slammed FIFA for glorifying and supporting Iran’s suppression of its women and called them a disgrace to Iranian women.
FIFA, you are just a disgrace to all Iranian women. No other sports entity has. normalized the Iranian regime's behavior towards its own people this much.https://t.co/6MscZkphYG

Shame on you! People are fighting against compulsory Hijab in Iran and you deliberately choose a woman wearing Hijab along with other men in the same video to represent Iran with her. FIFA and its corruption at its highest level hand to hand with the dictators in the middle east.

As if it's absolutely unintentional to show compulsary hijab for a nation fighting it.#MahsaAmini

The backlash was really not an unexpected one. Since the fight of the women against the Iranian regime started after the death of Mahsa Amini who died apparently because she was not wearing her burqa properly. During such a sensitive time, representing a woman in Burqa could not go unnoticed.
