School Says Rape Survivor Taking Class 12 Exams Will “Spoil Atmosphere”, Girls Getting Raped Is Good Atmosphere?
Sick to the core!Every passing day we see rape and assault news making the headlines, but these are not just mere headlines it says something very heartbreaking about us as a society. In a recent turn of events in Ajmer, Rajasthan, a young girl was not allowed to appear in her class 12 board exams. What’s more appalling is the reason behind this, this young girl was a gang rape survivor. The school authorities rather than supporting her, told her that her presence would “spoil the atmosphere”, suggesting she study at home instead.

The victim bravely brought this issue to light by reaching out Child Welfare Committee. She revealed in her complaint that despite having prepared for the exams, she was not issued an admit card by her school. The welfare committee swiftly took action by lodging a complaint against the school. Anjali Sharma, the committee’s chairperson expressed her concerns over the matter and demanded strict action to be taken against the school authorities. She emphasized that the survivor’s academic future shouldn’t be compromised due to the callousness of the school.
This is simply horrific. A private school in Ajmer, Rajasthan did not allow a class 12 student to appear for board examinations as she had been gang-raped last year so the “atmosphere would be spoiled” if she appeared for the exam.https://t.co/s2TRHFTyHI

According to Anjali Sharma, the victim had already attempted to sit for the board exams in December of the previous year, only to be met with rejection by the school. This denial not only deprived her of her right to education but also inflicted further emotional trauma. While the regular board exams have concluded, efforts are underway to ensure that the survivor can appear for the supplementary exams. The Child Welfare Committee is leaving no stone unturned to provide the necessary support and assistance to the survivor.
Horrifying.
A class 12 student who was gang-raped by her uncle and two other men not allowed to sit for exam by Ajmer private school because “atmosphere would be spoiled”.
Cancel the school’s license if this is true. Absolutely shameful.https://t.co/ioLDL1aobT

The school after they got caught is now using her attendence as the reason why she was barred from her exams. She is a rape survivor ffs, hasn’t she suffered enough already? She is the victim here. Why do we need such a school again? #Ajmer #discriminationhttps://t.co/3qviqcNtgR https://t.co/F0w0Tnx0U4

This is only one of the few cases where the victim more than the culprit has faced issues in society. The way society treats rape survivors is worse than the culprits who have performed the heinous crime. Being a rape survivor comes as a shame to the victim because the people around always also question to hear that the victim was in the wrong. It is heartbreaking that a basic right like the right to education has been denied from a young girl’s life for crimes she hasn’t even committed and at the same time the culprits roam around free until justice is served!
