Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri Says Shift To Videos Is Permanent, Celebs And Users Unhappy With Where The App Is Going
Yesterday, one of the most-followed women on Instagram, Kylie Jenner, pleaded with the creators of the app to stop becoming like TikTok. And the truth is that this concern is something that is universally shared, for the most part, many people on the internet have come out and raised this concern as to why Instagram is trying so hard to be TikTok and push video content more when the app initially started off as a photo-sharing app. In fact, one of the many people who have voiced their disapproval of this change was Kylie Jenner’s famous sister, Kim Kardashian, who reposted Jenner’s story. As a response to that, the CEO of the app, Adam Mosseri, shared a video where he addresses this concern and says that the app is going through a lot of changes and has to evolve with the world.
On July 26, the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, shared a video wherein he responded to Kylie Jenner’s public jibe at the app’s creators to “stop trying to be TikTok”. In his video, he spoke about how they’re not going to stop pushing the app towards video since that is the next step in their evolution process.
👋🏼 There’s a lot happening on Instagram right now.
I wanted to address a few things we’re working on to make Instagram a better experience.
Please let me know what you think 👇🏼 pic.twitter.com/x1If5qrCyS

Adam Mosseri in his video addressed a lot of concerns people had with Instagram and its algorithm. He did not deny that there is a shift from photos to videos and while they’ll continue supporting photos, the shift to lean into videos takes priority.
Needless to say, the video definitely didn’t sit well with the people on the internet. In fact, many celebs including influencers, public figures, actors, entrepreneurs, etc. came together in the comment section of the video and further pointed out to Adam Mosseri that the only reason that video is doing better on Instagram is that the users are being forced into posting videos since photos don’t have enough reach.

I don’t want to watch videos on Instagram, period. I don’t want to make videos. All I want is to scroll through pleasant photos, and any data you have saying otherwise is because product changes intruded on my curation.

stop making everything reels. You're making everyone from journalists, content creators, CEOs, and celebrities agree. It's now an app for everything you're advertising, not of my friends and people I think are cool.

Listen look, I don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes, but it’s a dying platform for creators. There is no benefit for us creators to post on there anymore other than to link to other platforms. I miss seeing the people I actually follow

You see more videos being created because you started supporting them more than photos. If peoples photos were seen by their actual followers then people would most the same amount as before and even more….We literally have no where else to post photos.
