Mamaearth’s Ghazal Alagh Talks About Investing In Badly Rated Products On ‘Shark Tank India’

I feel that no matter how much experience you have in a particular field, you are bound to make mistakes. After all, we are all human and are bound to have lapses in judgement from time to time. Recently, Mamaearth’s Ghazal Alagh, who was one of the sharks on Shark Tank India, opened up about how many of the entrepreneurs she has chosen to invest in on Shark Tank India had really bad products. Yikes! Well, at least we all get to learn from her mistakes.

In a recent interview with Raj Shamani, Ghazal Alagh, founder of Mamaearth, which is a natural, toxin-free skincare, haircare and baby care product brand, opened up about her experience on Shark Tank India. She claims that unless there is any major disconnect in the entrepreneur’s claims, the investment deals with the sharks remain the same even off-screen.

How many of us have had experiences where we have ordered products that have turned out to be complete fails? Apparently, Ghazal is no different. She talked about her experience with agreeing to invest in certain products on Shark Tank. However, she was then rendered speechless when she saw that the products had low ratings on Amazon. She said, ‘Oh my God! What do you do now?’ But you can’t then go back, right? Because the data that they shared was correct, now products don’t have a good rating, then it is your problem. So stuff like that has also happened.”

Sounds like a pickle, doesn’t it? So what does she do in situations like these? Ghazal decides to use this as an opportunity for improvement and talks to the entrepreneurs. She says that she likes to stay true to the promises made on-screen wherein they would guide and help the entrepreneurs make their products and businesses successes. So, Ghazal Alagh chooses to talk to them and ask them to change their product.

I feel like Ghazal Alagh’s approach to this problem is really smart. What is the point of brooding over what is already done? Proactively taking initiative and doing something to work on the problem makes more sense. It gets the job done and is beneficial to all parties involved.
