‘Yatri Kripya Dhyan De’ Review: Shaheer Shaikh, Shweta Basu Prasad’s Short Film Is A Fascinating Thriller

Even though I’m a total sucker for a good Bollywood masala movie that goes on and on for hours with innumerable twists, I love watching short films because in a short span of time you get to witness a plethora of emotions. And recently I watched Shaheer Sheikh and Shweta Basu Prasad’s short film Yatri Kripya Dhyan De and it did not disappoint. It’s a suspense thriller with only two characters – Shaheer Sheikh as Sumit and Shweta Basu Prasad as Nandita on a journey that takes you on an interesting ride with an unexpected twist.

The Plot

The short film Yatri Kripya Dhyan De is written and directed by Abhinav Singh and created by Big Banner Pictures. The story revolves around Sumit (Shaheer Sheikh), a medical coder who also owns a guest house. When he is driving through a desolate place in his fancy car, he encounters Nandita (Shweta Basu Prasad), a mysterious woman whose car has broken down. Seeing her stranded in the middle of nowhere, Sumit agrees to give her a lift. It starts with the duo having a regular conversation about work, life, etc. but the real story starts when Sumit notices a book in Nandita’s hand and asks her about it and the latter reveals that she’s reading a book about the paranormal titled ‘Ghost of The Silent Hills’. Sumit further questions Nandita about her life story and she immediately transforms into one of those cousins at the family gathering who always says, “Chalo bhooto ki batein karte hai.” She reveals a supernatural experience from her life with a ghost who apparently enters people’s bodies just to drink water (that’s a pretty lame reason to be a ghost, honestly). Sumit also shares an incident about a mysterious death at his property which triggers Nandita and the fun ride takes a spooky turn. And soon it turns out that the encounter is not a coincidence as Nandita knows about the haunting incident from his past too well. The twist after that will leave you gobsmacked for sure.

Shweta Basu Prasad And Shaheer Sheikh

When I heard that Yatri Kripya Dhyan De only has two characters, I was a bit concerned, to be honest. However, after seeing the film I was quite impressed with the two actors – Shaheer Sheikh and Shweta Basu Prasad. Shaheer Sheikh is playing the role of Sumit. As you know, he has featured in many series so it was no doubt that his performance is going to be awesome as always. However, I won’t say that he is playing a grey character in the film, I mean just wearing grey clothes and swearing does not make a character grey. Talking about Shweta Basu Prasad, she steals the show with her mysterious persona. She is the literal example of a nightmare who is dressed like a daydream in the film. The way she immediately changes her expression is so commendable. There’s a scene where she is talking about a particular ghost and she takes a sip from her water bottle and that minor action adds so much suspense to the story.

Final Verdict

The story does an excellent job of gripping the attention of the viewer immediately with the infamous topic of ghosts and bhatakti aatmas. In this 16 minute film, the story and the characters keep you on the edge of your seat. It begins freaking you out from the very start and quite cleverly manages to keep the essence of a thriller alive. The twist is quick and short but considering it’s a short film we can definitely cut it some slack. Talking about the ending, we cannot categorise it as a cliffhanger but it does leave you asking for more. Overall, Yatri Kripya Dhyan De is a thrilling and spooky ride and that’s why I’m giving it 3.5 stars because the writing is fast-paced yet detailed with good dialogues. Shaheer Sheikh and Shweta Basu Prasad are a treat to watch, you don’t feel bored looking at the same two actors for 16 minutes straight. The film does a really good job of serving a perfect amount of thrill in such a short time and you can easily notice the characters growing and changing as the story unfolds. I will not say that after watching this film, you will keep thinking about it for a long time but it is a total paisa vasool and you can surely give it a watch. And remember, girls like cars as well (if you know you know)!
