Indians await the beginning of the first-ever women’s IPL which is going to take place in March. The teams have been announced and so has the schedule as well as the venue. The inaugural Women’s Premiere League will start on March 4. And just days before that there is a confirmation on the captain for Mumbai Indians who is none other than the all-rounder player Harmanpreet Kaur. The player was selected to lead the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming Women’s Premier League.

On March 1, the Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani announced Harmanpreet Kaur as the captain of their women’s Mumbai Indians team. Harmanpreet Kaur who is also the captain of the country’s women’s team was also given the responsibility to lead MI. She was also one of the highest-paid cricketers in the WPL auction. Nita Ambani also informed us that Charlotte Edwards and Jhulan Goswami will be the coaches for the team. She even extended her good wishes to the players and the team as per the news. What makes it all the more special is the fact that they are the first Mumbai Indians women’s team!

The first face-off will happen between the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants. Apart from Harmanpreet, MI also has England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt among other talented lists of players.

Recently, Harmanpreet Kaur was harshly criticised on Twitter after the team lost the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup against Australia. It went to the extent that users claimed her involvement in match-fixing. However, what remains a reality is that the captain has broken many records in past and has taken the women’s team to newer heights. Under her leadership, it will be interesting to see how Mumbai Indians perform in the first IPL.
