In A New Blow To Afghani Women’s Rights, Taliban Bans University Education For Them
How are Afghani women supposed to live?Education is the beacon of hope for anyone around the world who wants to make their life better. Every person has the right to education and if education is taken away, their growth remains stunted. Especially for women because they have to fight every step of the way to get the same rights as men. After so many strikes on their basic rights in Afghanistan, education was the only hope for the women there to make a better life for themselves, and the Taliban decided to even snatch that away from them. In what comes as a horrific addition to the list of bans in the country, the Taliban have issued a ban on women attending universities.
As per reports, the ban was announced by the higher education minister, Neda Mohammad Nadeem, who said on December 20, 2022, that the education of females will remain suspended until further notice. He issued a letter to all private and government universities informing this new decision.
This ban has been condemned by the United Nations as well. The spokesperson of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Stephane Dujarric, said that he is deeply alarmed by this new ban that takes away women’s right to education. He also issued a statement saying that the ban on university education will have a devastating impact on Afghanistan’s future.
BREAKING: The Taliban have banned women from universities.
This is a shameful decision that violates the right to education for women and girls in Afghanistan. The Taliban are making it clear every day that they don't respect the fundamental rights of Afghans, especially women. pic.twitter.com/Ydf13rvsbF

This comes as another huge blow to the progress of Afghani women under the tyrannical rule of the Taliban as last year, girls were banned from attending secondary school. They also banned women from going to the gym and amusement parks last month.

After the Taliban seized Afghanistan after the withdrawal of the US troops from the country, they promised a more lenient rule. But they are clearly going back on their words and issuing bans, especially on the rights of women and girls while the men get to lead normal lives. The harrowing condition that the women in Afghanistan live under is unimaginable.
