DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal Says “Hollow System” Will Cause Girls To Die Like Shraddha Walkar

Crimes against women aren’t anything new or uncommon. And unfortunately, we hear horrifying accounts of things women go through in terms of abuse: both sexual and physical. But the recent Shraddha Walkar case is not only horrifying but also bone-chilling. This case has sparked debate all around the country and people cannot get over the horrifying details of the case. The chairperson for the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal has slammed the hollow system of our country, blaming it for Shraddha Walkar’s brutal murder.

Shraddha Walkar had filed a complaint about her abusive partner in Maharashtra in 2020 before she was slaughtered and strangled by her live-in boyfriend Aaftab Amin Poonawala in Delhi. The head of the Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal, questioned the investigation at the time and why no action was taken by the police when the complaint letter was publicly disclosed on Wednesday. She said that girls will keep dying like this as long as the system of the country stays so hollow.

Shraddha had filed a complaint against Aaftab on November 23, 2020, in which she detailed his threat to strangle and cut her into pieces. Aaftab attempted to kill Shraddha that day, according to Shraddha’s complaint letter. Poonawala has been verbally and physically attacking me. She detailed that he attempted to strangle her and threatened to kill her, cut her into pieces, and toss him away. She had detailed he had been hitting me for six months. She said that she lacked the courage to report him to the police because of his threats to kill me.

The Maharashtra police’s involvement was questioned by Ashish Shelar, the head of the Mumbai BJP, when the 2020 letter was made public. Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, claimed to have seen the letter in which Shraddha made some really serious accusations. He stated there would be an investigation into why the police did nothing at the time.

Former coworker Karan of Shraddha’s confirmed that Shraddha dropped the complaint after Aaftab’s parents intervened, promising her that Aaftab would vacate the apartment.
