Aaftab Poonawala Has Confessed. But It’s Still Not Enough To Prove Him Guilty Of Shraddha Walkar’s Murder

The country looks forward to strong justice for Shraddha Walkar who was brutally murdered by her partner, Aaftab Poonawala, approximately six months back. The prime accused is currently under the custody of the Delhi police and every possible evidence is being collected by the police to build a strong case. The most shocking part about the whole investigation and its outcome is that, even after Aaftab’s confession of committing this crime, it will not be held against him in the court of justice. And here’s why the case is this twisted.
Why The Confession Of Aaftab Poonawala Is Not Enough?
Firstly Aaftab made this confession of committing the murder before the magistrate, and then in the court. But it was just a remand hearing. The actual trial hearing is yet to happen. Remand hearings are basically when there are legal proceedings for an accused under police custody. Also, there are no witnesses of the crime to back the statements of Poonawala’s confession. The alleged accused has even given a date to the police on which he killed Shraddha Walkar, and it was May 18. However, now the police are presented with the challenge of proving that Shraddha was not alive after this particular date. In his confession, Aaftab Poonawala mentioned that it was a crime of passion, now even that has become tricky for the police. It has to be proven that Aaftab regularly hurt Shraddha Walkar in their relationship, so it can be inferred that he has a history of violence against her.
How Can The Case Become Strong?
There are many loopholes in the Shraddha Walkar murder case that the police have to fill in with strong evidence. Since the crime was committed six months ago, the police have little to no hope of receiving any DNA samples from the recovered murder weapons. However, if only they can prove that all the body parts recovered till now are of Shraddha Walkar, then there is a possibility of having solid evidence. On that, the police are expecting the DNA results to match Shraddha’s father and brother. The forensics department has also found some blood from Aaftab’s apartment washroom tiles which could establish that the victim’s body was chopped off there.
