“Had Sleepless Night,” Indian Shooter Abhinav Bindra On The Appalling Images From Wrestlers’ Protest

Hope they are served justice soon!

The ongoing wrestlers’ protest in Delhi against the Wrestling Federation Of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh took an ugly turn on Sunday, May 28. Images and videos of our national wrestlers being manhandled by the Delhi police left every Indian shocked and enraged. Olympic-winning shooter Abhinav Bindra also spoke up against the appalling actions by the authorities and condemned the matter. On the other hand, wrestler Sakshi Malik has expressed her firm statements of not moving an inch behind with the wrestlers’ protest. 

On May 29, Monday, Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra took to his micro-blogging platform to comment on the wrestlers’ protest, especially the appalling events that happened at Jantar Mantar, on the same day when the new Parliament was inaugurated. Abhinav Bindra wrote that he experienced sleepless nights after seeing the “Horrifying images” of the wrestlers. Abhinav Bindra also demanded setting up strong independent rules to protect athletes during such situations and firmly stated that every athlete deserves a safe environment.

Last night was sleepless, haunted by the horrifying images of my fellow Indian wrestlers protesting. It's high time we establish independent safeguarding measures across sporting organizations. We must ensure that if such situations arise, they are dealt with utmost sensitivity…

On the other hand, the difficulties for our wrestlers in this protest are increasing day by day. All the wrestlers were detained from Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. In a new video shared by Sakshi Malik, she informed that the police have also registered an FIR against the protestors and that they were very “Cruel” towards them. However, the wrestler also expressed her firm determination in going ahead with the protests and not move back. She thanked everyone for their support and stated that they will soon reveal their next step.
